I'm glad it's not only me. All my snipes are getting rejected. The response is they are fixed price listings and can't be sniped. They are not.

I set a snipe a few days ago on an auction that ended today. I would have seen the email before the auction ended and manually bid.

Any way that we can get an alert or email notification when there are issues like this. I missed two auctions and did not receive the end of auction notice with Network Error until several hours later. An outage notifcation email would help.

The bidding is back to normal as of 2 hours ago, with no intervention on my side.

As for email - unfortunately Gixen cannot send so many emails at once without being blocked by mail services.

For people pissed about Gixen not working, pump the breaks on the outrage for a minute. eBay was down for thousands of users.

For everyone pissed about not being able to buy items at low prices, the prices were artificially low because buyers couldn't bid.

Let me repeat that. Prices were artificially low because other buyers couldn't bid.

So don't be pissed because you thought you missed out of a deal. Sellers really got screwed too.

Sounds like DDos attack on APIs so someone could secure a lot without sniper bot competition. Pissed me off when it affected a lot, but luckily I caught it an hour before a holy grail ended and got to enjoy the thrill of manually sniping among the rookies and lightweights while the automated bots failed.

FYI

I was online at that time trying to bid manually, make offers, and BIN.

None worked correctly. Some bids and offers appeared to work intermittently, but BIN was DOA)
I even tried an old trick to use ebay.uk and some others locales while it was down. That didn't work either. Finally ebay got running again and things appeared ok.

No sniping options would/could work when the ebay system is not responding properly to even manual activity.

The issue was back a few hours ago, and lasted again an hour or so.

I don't understand for sure what's going on, but reports of access to eBay being blocked from certain locations might be an indicator that eBay is under some sort of attack. It's just my guess, I have no evidence of this. They will probably release more information soon.

Gixen is working fine now. There were some failures (again) that started some 4 hours ago, and ended 3 hours ago, but since then it's been fine.

Whatever this is (and it's no doubt serious), eBay is fighting it.

I hate to be a scope creep, but a suggestion for widespread-alerting without causing email problems: perhaps some sort of broadcast alert mechanism in the mobile app for API outage emergencies? (Hopefully something that won't be abused for ads )

Ebay was hacked Sunday 3:00 pm. They were under a DDS attack from someone in the other side of the world. The problem was over about 9 pm yesterday. Yesterday there were very little compared to Sunday and Monday, but that's what happened. Some group claimed responsibility, but the only thing they did was program a bunch of computers to hit eBay all at once to the point were their servers overloaded (couldnt handing that many requests all at one time). So like every machine, they slow down or just crap out.
