Good Morning
I placed a snipe for item 187022943382 and although my bid was way above the ending price, I didn't win. The reason listed was \"you are not eligible to bid on this item due to seller restrictions\". Does anyone know what this means? Can sellers stop automatic bids/snipes and if so, how can we find that out when bidding? Thankyou. |

Most often that means that the seller has blocked any bids from you. There are other restrictions that sellers can impose though, like where they are willing to post, how much positive feedback you have, etc.
Have you had any interaction with this seller in the past, favourable or otherwise ?
No, without actually placing a bid you can't know whether such a restriction is in place. It's fair to assume once you've had one response of this kind that the seller has permanently blocked your account though, so there's little point in placing any more snipes with that seller... all you can do at that point is try manual bids to see if the restriction has been removed and contact the seller to see if they are willing to remove that restriction. _________________ Mark |

Thanks Mark
It's very odd indeed. I've never bought anything from this seller and I have over 1200 positive feedbacks and none negative or neutral. Maybe it was just a bug in the system? What do you think? Best wishes, Liz |

Hi Liz,
I wouldn't expect it to be a bug in Gixen's system if that's what you mean. It will be as a result of a rejection that Gixen has received back from Ebay... so, if it's a defect, it would be on the Ebay side, and those type of issues with their system, from experience, seem to be extremely difficult to get them to fix, and even when they do it's many months or years, before they do... and some remain for years without being addressed.
Can you recall having ever contacted this seller ? Perhaps about something like shipping costs ? Occasionally interactions that sellers feel are problematic, even for things like this, can cause those sellers to block buyers.
This seller seems to have sold nearly 10,000 items and they've been registered since 01 Dec, 2004 so they have a lot of experience on Ebay.
You could just ask them directly if they have blocked your account, or know of any other reason why bids would not be accepted from your account on their auctions.
I'm assuming that you already checked that they will ship to your country/location ?
If you're not comfortable doing that, an alternative approach is that you could find another one of their auctions, that you are very confident is going to end up selling for more than the current price, and then manually place a low opening bid on that item.. just to see if Ebay let's you do that, or flags up some issue that you are able to address with your account before attempting to snipe any more of this sellers items. If that bid goes through just fine, then I might assume it was a temporary glitch on Ebay, but I'd still keep an eye out to see if it reoccurred, particularly with the same seller. _________________ Mark

Had you already successfully placed a bid on the item before Gixen attempted to place the snipe bid ? _________________ Mark |

Hi Mark
Thankyou so much for your reply, I'll have a look into it with the seller. Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place, I can't work out how to reply properly on this page! Kind regards, Liz |

Sometimes a seller can even be offended by a bid being too low, in their opinion, and block you as a result.
Try putting in an opening low bid on one of their items that you know is going to sell for much more to find out if you can't bid on any of their items. _________________ Mark |

Hi!
I placed a bid on an item earlier, but I don't live in the UK, my bid wasn't accepted.
AUCTION RESTRICTED: SHIPPING ADDRESS COUNTRY RESTRICTED
Is there any way I could place a valid bid despite that?
The item wasn?t sold, so it's been relisted 135686467929 , but the current fixed price is too high for me. I?d still be interested, just not at that price. I set the default address to my English buddy's address.
The seller may not be helpful and my buddy may not be able to deal with bidding for me. So I would be happy if you could find a solution without involving the seller or the friend.
Thank you! |

I set the shipping location to the UK on the eBay.com homepage.
I also set a UK shipping address as the default.
In the app, I also changed the country to the UK.
This way, I was able to place a bid, because I had to try it out.
Will Gixen work after these changes? I might still be at work, so I may not be able to bid manually, and my internet connection is also unstable because I work near the border of two countries. |

If you were able to place a bid manually then Gixen should also be able to place a bid on the same auction using that same id at the end of the auction.
In fact, if it can't, we want to hear about it as that is exactly the situation we want to be able to report to Ebay so that they fix any issue there my be with the way that Gixen bids are submitted and occasionally rejected, for reasons that can not be explained by the Gixen users. _________________ Mark

Hi!
I subscribed to Gixen at the beginning of the year. I already set the country to the UK back then. Main target site: UK, mirror: US. Gixen main is Chicago, Gixen mirror is Miami, although the cities can't be changed.
So, is this setup okay?
The item is quite rare, but I don't want to buy it at triple the price. For now, I only placed a manual bid at the starting price. However, with Gixen I set a higher bid. Since the shipping country was previously rejected, I?ve now set a UK address as the default. So, as you said, it should work now?
Thank You, Mark! |

That should be fine. It used to be recommended to target different Ebay sites with the Main and Mirror, because that gave some protection against Ebay rolling out changes that only affected one of those sites that only affected snipes there. I think since the change to use authorisations instead of actually logging in to your account that advice is less relevant, however it does no real harm to target two different sites, just means you might be dealing with a different Ebay support team if there were any issues with the transaction at a later stage. Personally I now target both Main and Mirror at the site that supports where I live.

Yes, if you've resolved the issue that caused the rejection it should work. _________________ Mark |

I won the item, although I was the only bidder. However, both my manual bid and the one placed by Gixen are shown, and it says 'WON' here on the Gixen website. |

That's good, thanks for coming back to let us know.
Gixen only ever says that if it managed to place your bid, so we'll certainly count that as a success. _________________ Mark |
