Oh this hurts. I found the perfect auction for a razor - bad description, poor pictures, foreign ebay site. Therefore, very little competition. The item sold for 35% of what I would have paid.

What went wrong? How can I keep this from happening in the future?

Was the snipe Mirrored, if not that would be my first suggestion to upgrade your account to include it.

If it was Mirrored what was the status on the Mirror tab? If it was the same then that might indicate some connection issue for Gixen that is specific to your Ebay account. You may need to take further action to resolve it if that persists.

It was not mirrored. I've only been on the site a few days. So, let's assume that I may need to take further action to resolve it. What would that action be?

Details of how to set up the Gixen socks proxy, in your browser, are given on a 'need to know' basis. With that in place and enabled the idea is to get your account verified against the Gixen server by following the instructions Ebay provide for doing so.

To request the instructions please email Mario direct at the support address given on the Contact tab above. Please include details of the issue together with your Ebay id in all such communication.

However, as I intimated in my first response, if this a one off then I would suspect that the best advice is to upgrade your account to have the Mirror service, at $6 for a whole year it is hardly going to break the bank. Without it you can expect around 1 in 300 of your snipes to fail for similar reasons.
