This is too funny! I have never seen this before, is it new? Under the "status" section of my bid it says "OUTSNIPED"!!!!!

I wish this "outsniped" would appear more often. There is a particular bidder who snipes everything that I snipe. I am now driving up their price on everything, even if I don't really want it that much.. Hope they like paying through the nose just for the sake of saying that they won. I guess there is no honor among snipers! hehehe. wink.

Yes that status has been part of the system for quite a while now.

It just means that there were later, higher, bids on the item after your bid was placed. Most likely the other bidder scheduled their snipe later than yours.

As you surmise it is not a failure of Gixen, in any way, in fact the detection of that event is a feature that has to be carried out after your bid is placed, when many might think the job that Gixen does for them is finished.

Hi Cupid,
Thank you for your reply.
Yes, I knew Gixen placed my bid because mine ran the other sniper's up to my max (which was really way overpriced for the item) and then they won it for one dollar higher. I think what happened is that in the past few days, I have "outsniped" this same bidder several times and won. The sniper probably was angered by my wins and has now decided to just put their maximum bid at an outlandish amount just so they can win. I think it is a ridiculous thing to put a bid in an extreme amount just for the sake of winning. There is a window of what is "reasonable" to pay for anything, no matter how much you want it. When I know that my bids were already much higher than the actual value of an item (the actual value + the extra value of my desire for the item), and the other sniper goes higher, then it is really just a matter of the fact that some people need to win at any cost. To me, that is just a psychological defect on their part. I have dubbed him/her the "Donald Trump sniper" (with psychological issues necessitating a win at any cost). Hehehe! giggle...

Thanks for your input. I would like to know how others feel when they get into an ongoing "sniping war" with a particular sniper. It is bad enough to get into bidding wars on eBay but at least you can bale out at a certain point. I know I can also bale with my snipes after having placed my good and healthy max (which I do). It just really makes one wonder how other people think and what motivates them when they are bidding way over what something is worth just for the sake of winning at any cost.

Personally, it does not bother me if others want to pay more than I think things are worth... There is so much on Ebay I have most often moved on to the next thing way before the auction even ends.

It does not make me snipe more than I think things are worth... actually I will sometimes manually bid higher, but only when bidders outbid themselves and I know that there is thus absolutely no chance that I could win by adding one more increment to the current auction price, but that is as far as I am prepared to go with such over bidding... This is because I believe that, at some stage, other snipers are going to run out of money, if they are paying too much... and by bidding more than it is worth I will eventually end up paying that much if I am prepared to bid it...

So much of getting a good deal on Ebay is a waiting game.. I have vast reserves of patience, in that respect.
