Hi Mario

Just wanted to ask.... If I have already bid on an item on the ebay website, will I be bidding against myself if I then use Gixen.

The reason I ask is the way ebay works about bid hierarchy and timing. Are there ANY drawbacks of using both ways to bid?

I searched for this question but was unable to locate anything similar.

regards
Kim

Found the answer way back in time when dinosaurs roamed the form. Would like to have deleted or edited this thread but couldn't find a way.

OK Kim, just to reiterate for others with similar concerns:

So long as you schedule your snipe with the same Ebay id as you have used to place the existing bid on Ebay there is no chance that Ebay will make you to pay any more even if you end up with the two highest bids at the end of the auction... that is a function of how Ebay works, nothing to do with what Gixen does.

Your snipe must, obviously, be for a higher amount than your existing bid, Ebay will not allow later lower bids from the same Ebay id.

The only reason that I ever do this is if I wish to remove a BIN option on an auction to prevent anyone else buying it at the unacceptable (to me) BIN option price.

The disadvantage, of course, is that by placing any bid on an auction, even one much lower than you are ultimately willing to pay, you openly express an interest that might encourage others also to bid on that auction and thus increase the amount that you might have to pay in order to win it, and/or decrease your chances of winning at all.
