|
|
eBay rolled out some changes that affected many users in the past few days. If you see "Sign in information not valid" or "CANCELED - SIGN IN NOT VALID" messages next to your snipes, and if you received "MC010 - Unauthorized access to your account" email from eBay you are affected by this.
The steps you need to take:
0) (optional) Log in to your Gixen account and make note of your scheduled snipes. They will be gone after step 1.
1) Follow the steps as outlined in the email from eBay in order to reset your password and restore access to your ebay account.
2) After you change your eBay password, you may not be able to immediately log in to Gixen. This is normal, as in the first 24 hours (or sometimes less) after your password change Gixen is unable to log in to your account. You will have to wait.
3) Log in to Gixen with the new password (when able to) and re-schedule your snipes. You will see an empty list and all snipes have to be re-entered.
You will no longer have this problem and can use Gixen normally from this point on. |

Cyrus, you are likely logging in to Gixen with the old password. Verify that you log in to Gixen with the same password as you log in to eBay. Please type in the password when logging in to eBay, then also type it in when logging in to Gixen. Do not use browser auto-fill.
Obviously, if you haven't changed your eBay password after May 21st, please do so, as required by eBay. |

I just lost an auction due to this "login" deal. I know for a FACT that my info on BOTH accounts are correct, so tell me why this happened. I've been waiting on this item forever and to lose it this was is infuriating, especially since the winner got it WAY less than my scheduled snipe!

Your login information looks good now, but at the time of that auction ending it was definitely refused by ebay. It's hard for me to tell why - I can only guess that they may have had a temporary issue at the time, as I noticed a few more refused logins around that time. I'm quite sorry, but this happens sometimes. |

Ibrefach, last night an incident happened in which snipes were prevented by ebay asking for verification (captcha images), for many users. The problem has resolved on its own since then. Unfortunately this can happen from time to time. |

Because this sort of thing can happen, a single server gets blocked for a short term by Ebay, it is an advantage to have two servers working for you...
It is for this type of situation that the Mirror service is designed to help. _________________ Mark |

Hello all:
I just received this dreaded notice and lost an auction. I received no email from eBay. I have been able to place a bid manually--without changing my password. A quick change to the "Offset" of a scheduled auction bid changed its status to "scheduled" again. But...Will it go?
Thanks much |

It may have been temporary for your account... I presume you got a "Sign in information not valid" on one snipe?
It would appear to be something related specifically to your Ebay account, at this stage, but I am basing that entirely on you being the only one reporting an issue here, at the moment.
If you have not had to take any steps with Ebay to resolve the situation then it is quite likely that it will happen again, even if not on the next snipe... there must be some reason for Gixen having detected that it can no longer log in via its servers to your Ebay account, even if you have always been able to do so from your home.
In order for the exact reason to be investigated, in more detail, you would need to supply the auction number of the one that received the "Sign in information not valid" status. _________________ Mark |

Correct Mark:
'Sign-in info not valid.' Still not had to take any action with eBay.
It happened again this morning, after I re-entered the auction listing last night. Auction# 321873109990.
Please advise when your time allows,

sugarbelly,
I can see that you changed your ebay password, as I see two snipes for the same item under different passwords. Are you sure you haven't changed your password yet again? |

Right, right Mario: the wife updated things. Thanks for asking the simple Q.
So I just updated the pass at eBay again. Then re-logged in here. Anything else to do?
Thanks |

If you have been updating credentials on Ebay, it is best to wait a while to allow things to settle down again... it has been reported more than once that changing these credentials triggers Ebay to introduce blocking features when logging in from alternative locations... which is exactly what you are doing by entering snipes here.
Unfortunately, that kind of activity, though legitimate in your case, looks very much like the sort of thing that will happen when an account is compromised as far as Ebay is concerned... and Ebay wish to protect you (and themselves) if that has happened. _________________ Mark |

Thanks Mark & Mario:
I'll wait a bit before locking in another snipe and see what transpires. I see what you're saying loud n clear. No reason to temp the triggers. We were overseas for a long time, but since we've been back nearly a year, I didn't think it relevant.
Thanks again for the help. I'll report back if things aren't fixed now, but I imagine all s good.

This is recurring problem...Every couple weeks I lose out on an auction b/c my snipe is cancelled with the message Login Not Valid. I have Mirror service so two servers are working.
It happened today with item number 141791065112
The problem is fixed when I change my Ebay password, BUT in the meantime I have lost out on an auction....Is there any way to prevent this from happening?? Or to know that my login is invalid?
Thanks - Karee |

Had this happen after i changed personal details - changed address - funny enough i still won or it still placed the bid / snipe and lasted one 24 hr period.
I just copy paste or drag item number to snipe page i love the product and have recommended to many i am also a reasonable volume ebay seller ID kevintagist - sell pinup film / photos..one buyer told me she used to get up in the middle of the night place bids at the last minute so not to lose an item - linked her gixen she is happy as Larry |

unkakev,
Is there an issue that you have that may need to be fixed?
If so can you provide more details, like what the status of the auctions was on both the Main and the Mirror after they had completed.
Also, if possible, it would be useful if you could provide example auction numbers that demonstrate the issue with your snipes. _________________ Mark |

Had a bunch of auctions that the bid do not go through due to:
CANCELED - SIGN IN NOT VALID
Bay auction 331686140479
Ebay ID is fine and some of the snipes set went and some did not (left the history on my Gixen page); based upon this I would say this is a Gixen error and I know you had server issues yesterday morning. I need this fixed, any help would be appreciated. |

jillcccslp,
Your problem seems to me to be the same or very closely related to the one that Mario and I have posted about most recently on this thread:
http://www.gixen.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7561
so the information provided there is probably the most relevant as to how to move forward with this. _________________ Mark

Emailed Mario my info and he said it was an issue with Ebay but it was cleared up. I am still getting the message and snipes are not going through, see above auction as an example. This is now over a day and is starting to cost me $$. I need it fixed ASAP. |

I am actually crying with frustration over this.
I didn't win a ring that I would have paid a LOT more than what the winner paid! The winner's bid went up at 3 seconds till the end, so maybe another Gixen user?
I pay for Mirror service. I haven't changed any passwords and have won a few items last week. I'm kind of upset about this because I had NO NOTICE that these problems were popping up. I watched the listing end!! I could have done things myself with just a wee bit of notice.

Is that a mea culpa from Gixen Oct. 27 at 3:51 p.m.? Your previous responses blamed eBay for this deplorable situation. So, what REALLY happened? I, like so many others expressing their frustration in the forum, "lost" several auctions today that I'd otherwise have won. Your lack of candor is very disappointing. |

This problem wasn't on Gixen's side, I can tell you that much. Perfectly valid logins were refused as invalid. I have seen previously that login gets blocked with captcha images if everything is not right, but I have never seen a valid username / password being declined as invalid.
I have received several emails from users who confirmed that they experienced this while placing bids manually. They would log in fine on second attempt. So this is what Gixen does now - tries another login after first one gets declined. And ugly as it is, it seems to work.
To add - I understand your disappointment, but I did the best I could under the circumstances. |

So,
Does EB try to prevent snipers from using programs like Gixen? With today's concerns about personal info being hacked I can understand their attempts to stop programs from accessing them. But from my understanding, Gixen doesn't access our personal INFO, and that our password is still encrypted.
Is this true? Maybe this is EB's misguided attempt to "protect" buyers by blocking programs like Gixen? |

jillcccslp, please email me and I will investigate.
SweetSnipe, I don't think sniping services are target of these measures. The real target are fraudsters, and sniping services are a collateral damage. I wish, however, eBay decided to work with us, instead of ignoring us all together. I've been asking for it for a long time. |

SweetSnipe,
To expand on Mario's response... yes, your credentials are encrypted in transit between yourself and Gixen... and between Gixen and Ebay when Gixen logs into your account. Both sites use the http protocol for transmission of these details.
The credentials are also not stored in easily accessible form on the Gixen server while Gixen is waiting for the auction to end when it will place the bid... the storage must necessarily be a reversible encryption, so that the correct details are available to be sent securely to Ebay when the time comes.
In addition only Mario has access to the Gixen servers and has security in place to monitor whether anyone else has managed to breach that security in order to even gain access to the servers, let alone go after what is stored there.
Even with all this Ebay will not be able to necessarily distinguish what it sees coming at it from the Gixen servers in terms of log ins to Ebay accounts from the sort of activity it would see from a hacking attempt. The primary difference that they should see is that the vast majority of log in attempts from Gixen servers are with valid credentials whereas hacking attempts usually have a high degree of activity with invalid credentials... Gixen has to constantly strive to keep up the proportion of valid log ins in order to try to prevent action being mistakenly taken by Ebay against its servers and its users... but with the best will in the world with Ebay constantly trying to outwit the hackers and thus always updating their detection activities, there are always likely to be occasions when they take unwarranted action against sniping sites like Gixen. _________________ Mark |

Could not add this item (231733562385)(1, 127).
Tried several times to add an auction number and get this message.
Auction number is 231733562385. I just made the lowest bid, so I know I'm not blocked for some reason.
Is there a list of codes where I can see what the 1, 127 means? |

Missed another sweet snipe where I would have saved over $150!!!
Please please please be done!!
Earlier I was able to add new snipers that end in 3 days. The one I REALLY wanted ended 4 hours after I added it, or at 02:38CST. Got that freaking message that I posted about above. I have never had this much trouble before. I even messed around with my password, thinking that things would straighten out if I reset that.
HEY!! I have an idea! When you guys start "messing" with things that might prevent our snipers from working, put a note in big letters on our snipe entry page!!!! PLEEEZE. |

SweetSnipe,
Unfortunately, changing credentials generally makes things worse, not better, as shown by many previous threads on this forum.
It causes Ebay to impose catchas more often during the log in process. That will be because they think that changing a password on one IP (your home) and then logging in from another (a Gixen server) looks more suspicious than general sniping. It is more what they expect from fraudsters than from usual bidding behaviour.
So, I now advise that if you change credentials on Ebay that it is best not to schedule any snipes on here for, at least, 24 hours afterwards.
What exactly is the status that you are getting now, both on the Main and the Mirror? _________________ Mark |

This is the message I have been getting:
Could not add this item (231733562385)(1, 127).
In addition, yesterday I couldn't add new item numbers. I don't remember what the msg said. Maybe it's in one of my previous posts to this thread?
The items I have currently in my snipe calendar all say:
CANCELED - SIGN IN NOT VALID
The auction I lost today says:
Sign in information is not valid. |
