Unrelated: I do notice that I have won a couple of snipes at the exact top amount I set. This is probably coincidence, but I wonder if there is a way for sellers to detect what that upper limit is - ?

There is absolutely no way for sellers to know what your maximum bid is, so this must be a coincidence.
