What do the colours mean?

Having been a very happy JBidWatcher user for many years, I have started looking for an alternative as the author seems to be having difficulty keeping up with the various changes that eBay keep making. (No criticism intended - JBidWatcher is very feature rich, and is given away free by a guy who also has to keep a roof over his head and feed his family).

I've been directed to Gixen and am very impressed so far, even if I miss some of the features that JBidWatcher provides.

My question is - what do the different colours mean for the auctions on the Gixen site? (Alternatively, where is this documented so that I can go away and read about it?)

I've figured out that red is an item that I'm currently modifying, and I think that yellow may be items where my snipe is less than 1 bid increment above the current highest bid, or where I have no snipe. But what do the different shades of grey and white mean? And are there any other colours that I haven't encountered yet?

You have already almost answered your own question... except for a little clarification... The yellow is for a maximum bid below what Ebay will accept as a bid... the grey and white just alternates to distinguish snipes from one another as you read down the page they do not have any meaning in themselves other than that you have a snipe scheduled.

There are no other colours that I am aware of.

There is one item in my (test) list that I don't understand. It is currently at GBP 0.55, and the next acceptable bid by eBay is GBP 0.60. However, I have a GBP 0.57 snipe in Gixen (which would not be accepted), but it is coloured in White rather than in Yellow.

(Don't know whether it is relevant, but I did have a previous - manual - bid at this auction at GBP 0.32, which has since been outbid).

Many thanks - the item number is 271597126429, and there are already bids on it (including one that I placed manually for GBP 0.32).

OK, what happened here is that the number of bids was not fetched correctly initially, so Gixen thought 0.55 was the starting price with no bids. It looks fine now.

Many thanks for investigating, and sorry for asking so many questions, but was it because of (1) a bug in Gixen, (2) something that I had done wrong, or (3) just one of those glitches?

Supplementary question: The bidding has now gone up to GBP 1.25, but it's still showing on the Gixen web site and in Gixen Desktop Manager as GBP 0.55. Is there any way that I can force Gixen to update, or will it just happen automatically and there's no manual intervention possible?

I interpreted it that Mario had to make a change to fetching the number of bids in order to get it to work... Ebay change things slightly on a regular basis so such maintenance is constant for Mario... so a combination of (10 and (3) but not (2).

The GDM should update when you start it up, and at a regular interval specified by the options you choose in it. The website only updates periodically every few hours (possibly more than 6 hours), the process of fetching snipe values for all snipes is quite resource intensive, hence the delay on the server... The GDM uses your own computer to get the values, so can do it much more often, that is one of the pro=primary reasons people use the GDM.
