MY BID WASN'T PLACED AND WHEN I RE-VISITED GIXEN, THE TIME HADN'T MOVED ON AND IT STILL SAID SCHEDULED AFTER THE AUCTION HAD ENDED.

Does it still say 'Scheduled' now if you log in again?

Did you get an update on the status after the auction had ended by pressing the 'Add' button with nothing specified in the fields, or something else?

What was the amount of your snipe?

You may have not refreshed the status - the bid was too low, even though it was slightly higher than the winning bid, as it did not meet the ebay bid increment requirement.

Thank you Cupid and Mario for your 2 very helpful prompt replies. I think I've got the drift now! I'll try the + button in future, Mark...and I understand about the bid increment requirement, Mario. I'm sure I'll be back but in the meantime, enjoy your weekend.
Very many thanks,
MEC

lcys_73,

What status did Gixen give this snipe after the auction had finished?

As you can see cupid the status is "ended"
In the left side is my bid [ 2.59 Eu ]
The right side is the winner number with one.
There is no bidding increment issue as you can see.

From the information you have provided here it looks like Gixen was late for that auction, but only Mario can say for sure.

For non mirrored snipes this happens in about 1 in 200 cases, do you have the Mirror service?

No I don't have a mirror service.
Anyway it's free so I don't complain just I thought it would be use fool to identify ALL the reasons and make adjustments if necessary in order to can be avoided happening again.

The best way to avoid this happening is to have a Mirror account, it is only $6 per year and failures of this type are very rare indeed when that is used.

lcys_73,

Gixen was not late on this one, but the original status was overwritten by a subsequent edit (refresh?). The status was:

"AUCTION RESTRICTED: SHIPPING ADDRESS COUNTRY RESTRICTED"

This means that the seller does not ship to your country.

The country settings you talking about it is reasonably frequent in UK, but I never experienced when by bidding in Germany.
Nevertheless it's possible to be how you saying.

You only get this when the seller specifically chooses to restrict the auction to the places they ship to, otherwise eBay often accepts the bid.

It is becoming more common for sellers to set this option as I often see complaints from them about eBay accepting bids from overseas buyers that they do not want to send things to.
