Hello Mario, yesterday I once again won an auction thanks to Gixen. And as always I received a nice email from Gixen about it. BUT: the email (and previous ones now that I think of it) says this:
Item: 120746771111
Title: ART BLAKEY Cafe Bohemia BLUE NOTE ORIG Lex FLAT
Status (main): HIGH BIDDER
Status (mirror): BID UNDER ASKING PRICE
Your maximum bid: 100.00
Current price: 62.01
Now, since I won the auction, how should I read the "bid under asking price" part of this little Gixen overview? Can it be that I set my offset to 6 and mirror to 3 seconds (and is that a smart setting or not)? I mean, if I "bid under asking price", wouldn't that mean that I didn't meet the seller's reserve, which makes it impossible to win the auction? But I did win.
Apologies in advance if this question has been answered by you a kazillion times already, but I just couldn't find a satisfactory topic about this one.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

This is normal, your status on the Main is HIGH BIDDER, that means you won due to the Main server getting there first.
EBay does not allow you to bid the same amount again at a later time, so when the Mirror server came to place its' bid eBay told it that the bid was not allowed hence 'BID UNDER ASKING PRICE'.
If you have the same offset on both servers it is random which will get there first, it could just have easily happened the other way round. Only when one fails is the other absolutely necessary to get the bid placed, when one works (as is the case the vast majority of the time) you don't need the other to win the auction. _________________ Mark |

Well, Mark, that makes it all a lot clearer, thanks so much.
And about my settings for 6 on the main and 3 on the mirror: if I read your reply correctly, then it's not a bad setting either.
I set it to 6 and 3, based on the thought that if someone else snipes 5 seconds before auction closes, then my 3 will still go right over him. Or is that a too simple look at it?
Anyway, thanks again for your swift reply. |

They are not bad settings... but what will happen most of the time is that the Main will get in with your 6 second snipe, this effectively blocks the Mirror as the bid amounts are the same. Only if the main fails to submit your bid will you ever see a 3 second snipe. _________________ Mark |
