Occasionally I find while I am using eBay they log me out without good reason... This is usually when they are very busy... I think this error may be due to the same cause.

EBAY ERROR: BID FLOW RESET (2)

Had two this evening within 5 minutes of one another - lost both items - actually no bid placed - on both auctions

Still not sure what this actually means but I guess to do with a login?

Thanks

It means that eBay inserted a login screen in the middle of the bid submission flow, after a login has already been made. I do not know what causes this, and can only guess.

I can see that it happened twice this evening, for the same account (that must be you), several minutes apart. Something must be different with your account - is it a new account, and is it possible that they want some additional information?

I would try to place a bid manually and see if you experience the same (login screen after already being logged in).

I missed a bid this evening due to this error.
I'm not clear what you mean, Mario, when you suggest eBay inserted a login screen in the middle of the bid submission flow...?
I won a bid ok with Gixen a couple of days ago and as far as I can tell my eBay account info is up to date. I've been a member for a good few years.
How common is this? Googling EBAY ERROR: BID FLOW RESET (2) only brought up a few fairly recent posts on the Gixen forum, nothing else.
It's thrown me a bit! Is there a way round it or to ensure it doesn't happen again?

BID FLOW RESET is a gixen term for this happening so goohling that will only bring you back here... which is not to say that this problem does not affect many other people.

What Mario means is that after logging on to your account sucessfully it was as if eBay logged you off again and requested you to log in again, while Gixen was trying to place the bid.

As I said earlier on this thread it happens to me occasionally while I am setting up snipes, searching etc... while logged on to eBay, I'm thus not suprised it occasionally happens for the gixen software too.

Was this snipe just on the main server or was it on the mirror too?

Typically, a flow looks like this:

1) Sign in screen
2) Bid screen, in which an amount is inserted
3) Confirmation screen
4) Bid is accepted, status page is returned

All these steps take a few seconds each. "Bid flow reset" is when instead of 4), 1) is returned again.

This may happen only sometimes, only to some users, only with specific category, or only with some sellers. The only way to find out what causes it to go through the process manually. Usually after the second screen there is something else - e.g. something specific to that item.

It can, however, also happen with no particular reason due to some technical issue at the moment.

OK thanks for the explanation.
Sounds like its a fairly rare occurrence.
Are you suggesting placing a manual bid on every item I bid for, every time from now on, as well as a snipe? Kind of a 'belt and braces' bid to check if there's likely to be a problem first?

I don't think Mario is suggesting that, at this stage.... but you might think about trying it for items that have some similarity to the one for which this occured... same seller, same category of item etc.

Also, if you do note a pattern where you do get extra log in pages it would be useful if you could report it back here.

Thought I'd let you know I just won a bid with same seller and item as the bid I missed on Feb 22nd. I did as you suggested and placed a manual bid, did't get a second screen, went ahead with the snipe and won. Yay!
Thank you Smile
