Hoping you can help me understand what happened on an auction today –
Item number: 193311524319
The standing bid was $15, then Gixen placed my first and only bid at my maximum bid amount of $31 (rather than what I would have expected at $16). The next bid from a competitor raised it a dollar so they won the auction.
Is it common for Gixen to place a max bid like that rather than something incremental? Thanks for any feedback. |

Yes, this is exactly what Gixen does... and it's exactly what you need it to do.
The winning bidder had already placed a bid of 32 or more (as detailed on the bidding page; the timestamp on their bid is earlier than yours) ... which is why you still lost and why they will now have to pay this much.
Had the other bidders maximum been less than yours you would have won, but by a maximum of one bid increment more than the amount they were prepared to bid.
This is how Ebay works and it's why Gixen doesn't ever need to worry about bidding many times in small increments, as many seem to expect it to do.
If it had bid $16, you would have still lost but the other buyer would also have had to pay only one bid increment more than that bid... You wouldn't have been happy about that I'm quite sure ?
So you'd then expect it to receive the response from Ebay, and bid again, get outbid.. and bid again ... etc. .. You can see where this is going can't you ? ... There wouldn't be time to do all that in the last few seconds of the auction, would there ?
.. and even if it did, and you finally get to have placed the highest bid... what about the bid that comes in from another sniper, just after that ?
So, in conclusion, it's always worked this way, because it's the only way it can be successful. It's also how all other sniping programs, on Ebay at least, have to work. _________________ Mark |

Thanks for the explanation - glad you folks have this figured out because I'm not sure I followed all that, lol.
I'll certainly keep up my Mirror subscription to support you because you've won several auctions for me over the years. Keep up the good work! |
