I recently became a Pro user today because of this backpack that I have been searching for years has become available for auction.

I've been reading about yours guy's "sock server", is this something I need to create or am I fine as a new user?

There shouldn't ever be any need for you to use the Gixen socks proxy.

It was only ever used for very specific issues that used to very occasionally be imposed by Gixen on specific Ebay accounts.
