|
|
Over the past few weeks I have received this message a couple of times.
I do not understand why.
In today's instance:
a) I had been logged in to Gixen for some hours, and was only pressing the "Add" button. I was NOT trying to log in.
b) I had been logged in to Ebay for some hours as well.
c) I had not submitted an incorrect password to either service.
d) I have not changed password.
So there was NO failed login attempt by me, but I received the message. Anyone explain what causes this behaviour?
Thanks |

After a 10 hour break, my account is still suspended for the same reason.
I have only made one login attempt (few seconds ago) in that time.
Anyone in Gixen support notice this thread? |

Forgot to mention just for the record - I am a paid-up subscriber in case that affects support scheduling, but wouldn't think it does given the 'good vibe' permeating this service. |

Me too.
NB: This is the gixen web site/page error message. The exact contents of the error returned is:
"Your account has been suspended for the following reason: Too many failed login attempts (2).
The suspension will automatically be lifted after one hour. Please verify your password on eBay first before trying again."
I have checked and double-checked my eBay user ID and password being used to log in via gixen and it's 100% correct. (It's stored by FireFox password manager.)
Also, gixen desktop doesn't seem to be working either. It stalls on "Connecting to gixen..."
Gonna try a couple things first to rule stuff Bin/out before sending an email to Mario. |

Haaayyyy Marioooo!!!
Logged out of eBay on my browser.
Cleared cookies.
Confirmed that I was logged out of eBay - user id no longer appearing on pages.
Loaded gixen desktop. Well I tried to anyway - I got this sequence of error messages:
Error: Could not get user country, using default
Error: ERROR (115) GIXEN ACCOUNT SUSPENDED
Error: Could not get item list. API returned: ERROR (115) GIXEN ACCOUNT SUSPENDED
Wazzit all mean? Does this point to a problem with the gixen logon server?
Sending email... |

Ok, something very flaky is going on here.
I just tried logging in again via the web site and got the same "account suspended" error message. Right after that - a minute later, not an hour later - I loaded gixen desktop again and... got logged in ok this time and posted a new snipe via gixen desktop. Wha!?
Mario - any idea why logging in is acting flaky like this? |

I advise clearing your password in the Gixen Desktop Manager and typing it in again from scratch.
I would advise doing the same in the browser too... don't use the stored password, type it in again via the keyboard.
Please note that accounts are automatically suspended for an hour after only 2 login attempt failures, so you always need to wait at least an hour after receiving such a failure message before trying again.
I know it is frustrating but the measures are in place to protect the whole community, too many failed log in attempts from the Gixen server raises a risk of Ebay taking action against all of that community, not just those with credentials sent that don't match what Ebay has stored. _________________ Mark |

I TRIED TO LOGIN FOR AN ITEM [182006262305], BUT WAS TOLD MY PASSWORD WAS INCORRECT. TRIED IT AGAIN, AND NOW I AM LOCKED OUT.
I HAVE NOT CHANGED THE PASSWORD.
NORMALLY OTHER SITES [IN CASE OF LOST OR FORGOTTEN PASSWORDS] ASKS TO PROVIDE EMAIL ADDRESS TO RESET THE PASSWORD. IS THERE ANY FOR GIXEN?

vivek49,
It is different for Gixen since it is not the repository of your Ebay credentials, Ebay is. So if you wish to change your password it is only at Ebay that you can do so, all Gixen does is use what you provide in order to try to log into Ebay, if that fails changing your password is not an option for Gixen.
I advise first going back to Ebay and typing in your credentials in from scratch, not using any saved passwords, this will ensure that you can be absolutely confident that you are using exactly the same ones when you come back to Gixen.
These days, I believe the Gixen suspension is temporary, only an hour or so, if after waiting more than that, you then type in your credentials from scratch here on Gixen and are still denied entry then the indication is that Ebay has taken action against your account that prevents you from logging in via remote locations like the Gixen server.
In that case Ebay action of that type is also usually temporary (but considerably longer than Gixens) lasting a day or so.
If you can't wait that long to try again then the best option is to set up the Gixen socks proxy and, with that in place, try to log into Ebay via the Gixen server and see what instructions Ebay present in order to resolve the blockage they have put in place. _________________ Mark |

Please remove the password lockout feature from my account.
I am a paying customer and have been denied service by your STUPID lockout policy.
As one of the LEADING experts in Internet Security ... locking someone out after 2 failed attempts is a DENIAL OF SERVICE, not security. Your password lockout is a Denial of Service because it is not working and because you expect ROBOTS to be entering the password, not humans. HUMANS make mistakes, just so you know.
By the way, I said after 2 attempts. I put the right password in on the 3rd attempt and it locked my account anyway, causing me to miss an auction that I probably would have won. |

bigdoug,
It is now down to only two attempts because any more than that causes Ebay to take action against Gixen as a whole and often against the specific account itself, since they detect that the attempt to log in with incorrect credentials is made from a location remote from your home, the Gixen server.
Put simply, the Gixen service itself can not be sustained long term if we allow people to enter their password incorrectly.
The lockout is temporary, only an hour or so, then it is automatically removed. I believe this is the best compromise for the good of the whole Gixen community. _________________ Mark |

bigdoug,
As Mark explained, I have no choice - every failed login attempt you try means a failed Gixen attempt to log in to eBay. Consequences are quite dire - one more failed attempt and eBay starts inserting captchas, preventing login for 12 hours or so. And not just for you. Gixen handles such events by using a number of different IPs, but number of them is limited. |

|
|
I understand Gixen's approach when a user enters an incorrect password - and accept the suspension procedure.
However, on several occasions over the last month (at least 4 occasions) I have been locked out WITHOUT entering an incorrect password.
As per the first post in this thread, I had been logged in to both Gixen and Ebay for several hours. I simply went to my Gixen tab to enter a new snipe, and the moment I pressed the ADD button, I got the following message:
"Your account has been suspended for the following reason: Too many failed login attempts (2)."
So, in summary:
1) I made NO login attempt at all, I was already logged in
2) I entered NO incorrect password into Gixen for at least a week before the event.
3) I entered NO incorrect password into Ebay on the same day.
Why does Gixen decide to suspend my account ? |

I think Mario will need to do a detailed investigation then.
Please email him direct at the support address given on the 'Contact' tab above.
Always include your Ebay id in such emails, never your password. In this case please give details of exactly what times your account has been suspended and subsequently reinstated due to supposedly incorrect password entry. Please also refer back to your posts on this thread, so that if there is a general problem Mario can report the solution here as well as back to you via email. _________________ Mark |

I am having the exact same problem mentioned throughout this thread. I am attempting to log in and getting an error message that my password is incorrect, etc. and the Gixen desktop app is giving the same errors - can't find country, error 101 could not log in, could not get list, API returned error 101, etc.
I am already logged in to eBay, with no problem. This seems to be the same weird behavior that Gixen exhibited last year.
What can I do to get this corrected so that I can use this service that I am paying for? |

To "Milk and Sugar", I started this thread due to the problem of account suspension when pressing the ADD button to add a new snipe.
This is not "the exact same" problem that you describe when you try to log in.
It may or may not have the same error message and/or underlying cause, but I just wanted to clarify that this thread is targeting the issue of account suspension when you press the ADD button, to which I hope we progress to a resolution. |

No, not from a Gmail account. I used a personal email (don't want to quote email addr on open forum). Got no bounce msg.
What I'll do is send a new email with specific title "CELI SUPPORT TICKET" to support at gixen com from aother personal email service.
If you can reply to this one, then I will supply any futher info required (note reply delays due to time zone differences may occur).
Thanks |

If clicking the link doesn't bring up your normal email client, just copy and paste the email address ( support@gixen.com ) into your normal email tool.
The link only provides a shortcut to that process if you have set your computer up to recognise and process email links in that way. _________________ Mark |

From my home in the UK the site seems to be running at normal speed.
I would suspect the hold up is probably at Ebay in processing your log in, if that is what you are having trouble with here.
If the problem persists you will need to resort to email as suggested above for others that experience this issue over a protracted period. _________________ Mark |

Hey I keep getting locked out when I try to login to Gixen. It tells me my password does not match. I logged out of eBay and logged back in... my password is fine and has not changed.
I hand typed it into gixen to no avail (over and over) and keep getting locked out. What is going on? |

minimates_menagerie,
If the problem persists it may be that Ebay has imposed restrictions o your account that prevent you from logging in via the Gixen server.
If that is the case please email Mario at the support address given on the Contact tab above, include your Ebay id, along with the description of the issue, and he may then be able to provide specific instructions to enable you to move forward with this. _________________ Mark |
