Hi I lost an auction last night that I should have won
Item number
182121277021
The main server said
EBAY ERROR: LOGIN TIMEOUT (1)
The mirror said auction ended early ( 1)
Can you please advise what happened and if I can prevent it as I have several more finishing in the next 12 To 24 hours
Thanks appreciate it
Regards Sharon |

Sharon,
My apology about that. It looks like eBay was timing out when accessed from all servers. At this point I am not sure whether that was a technical issue on their end, or if it was deliberate. I am looking into it. In the meantime, things seem to be back to normal now. |

Hi,
I just had two Network Errors tonight, and lost both auctions. No other information is given alongside the listing apart from "Network Error", and I had entered the correct item numbers both times. Could you please look into the errors? Thanks! |

I took a more careful look tonight, checking logs for a few dozen snipes that timeout today. There is no doubt that timeouts are more frequent than they used to be, from all Gixen servers. Since there were no changes on Gixen's side, I can only guess what changed on eBay's side.
I did, however, make some changes that I could do, and they seem to greatly help. Now for the final bid Gixen is able to squeeze another attempt if the offset is set to 6 seconds or more, which it is in most cases. This means that now 6 second offset snipes (or longer) are indeed expected to be more reliable than the shorter ones. Since I made these changes number of failed snipes dropped. The changes coincided with a less busy time, so I will have to observe this over the next few days to know for sure. |

I had a snipe fail too with the "Auction ended early" message (mirrored), but I've also been winning auctions the past few days with the same error message. I've increased the offset to 15 on a couple items I don't want to lose, do you think a bigger offset might help the issue for now? |

As Mario mentioned changes he has implemented for snipes with an offset above 6 seconds... in the post before yours... it would seem sensible to have offsets of 6 or above...
I have always thought that more than 6 achieves the best results anyway, but that has nothing to do with reliability of the sniping process, which is what is under consideration here. _________________ Mark |
