I'm new to Gixen so forgive me for asking what is probably a stupid question. If I am currently the high bidder, with a certain maximum bid, can I still activate Gixen to place a last minute bid for me IF I'm outbid, and with a a higher maximum bid than the one that I entered on Ebay before? Or am I causing a problem here and should bid manually instead? Many thanks! |

There aren't any real issues with this, just some things to note.
Firstly Ebay will only ever accept bids that are greater than the ones you have already placed (as well as being at least one increment more than the auction price at the moment the bid is scheduled to be placed, of course)... So there is never any point setting up a snipe for an amount that is less than a bid you have already placed, because that will always fail.
Secondly I'm assuming you don't want this snipe to be part of a Group... because there are other considerations, that have caught people out in the past that you might want to take into account if the snipe is to be part of a Group. To cut a long story short on this Gixen will only cancel later grouped snipes if it is able to place the winning bid itself.
Note that your higher bid will be placed by Gixen if you schedule a snipe here... However, unless there is some other bid placed that is greater than your previous high bid, that will make no difference to the amount you pay. This is just a feature of the way that Ebay works, having the two highest bids does not result in a higher auction price.
All that said, personally, I only ever place early manual bids if I want to remove a BIN price that is too high for me to just go ahead and buy the item... or if I actually want the auction price to rise above what I am willing to pay... _________________ Mark |

I think some key words here are:
Quote: | ...can I still activate Gixen to place a last minute bid |
Gixen needs at least two minutes before an auction close to set up and execute a snipe. (And you are warned accordingly on your Gixen page when placing or modifying a snipe.) If you try to modify an existing snipe with less than two minutes left the snipe may then not happen at all. If you try to add a new snipe with less than two minutes left it's not enough time for gixen to do it's thing.
The better approach is to think hard and research what is the maximum you are willing to bid and set that amount to begin with. Keep in mind that being outbid at the last minute by one bid increment does not mean you will win by just one more bid increment either. You have no idea what that other person's maximum bid amount is set at. |
