|

Hi - I've had a few problems with gixen placing bids today (through the Australian site). Initially it said that this was due to captchas, and so I changed my password and logged on via the Gixen proxy as directed to in the instructions box that pop ups. However, after doing that and logging off the proxy server, I got a different, new problem - the one in the subject line. I still seem to be able to make bids from my own account (I just tried) but bids that were placed in Gixen did not go through (e.g., item 221937375429 or 171989508891). Hope this is an issue that can be fixed! |

I am quite surprised that there is an instruction to change your password in order to get around a captcha issue... in my experience, that often makes things worse, not better.
What Ebay sees is a change of credentials (on your home computer) and then a log in from a different location (the Gixen server)... which is just the kind of activity they see when an account is compromised... so then Ebay takes action both to protect your account and themselves.
I now advise people not to try to log in to Gixen for at least a day after changing credentials.
None of that helps with getting a verification of your account against the Gixen server now though...
If you still have the instructions as to how to activate the proxy... that is probably the best way to go... and with it active see if you can get your account verified.
You will need to go to the Ebay site that you have set up as your target on the Settings page... the default will be Ebay.com, if you have never changed this setting. On that site, with the Gixen socks proxy active, you should then try to do what Gixen does when placing a bid for you, that is log in and place a bid... at some stage during that process, Ebay software will probably intervene and ask you to verify your account again, then follow the on screen instructions and you should be able to get your account back in to a state that Gixen can place bids for you again.
If you no longer have access to the instructions on setting up the Gixen socks proxy, then I recommend waiting for a day or so before trying to use Gixen again... The measures Ebay takes against accounts, with what it regards as suspicious activity, are usually temporary and short lived.
If the problem persists beyond that then, I recommend going back to email for support (see the 'Contact' tab above) because you don't want to be discussing specific details about your Ebay account credentials on an open forum like this. Always include your Ebay id in emails, but never your password. _________________ Mark |

Thank you for the information, I will try that again. Looking at the instructions again, the instructions do advise changing a password specifically if you haven't changed the password since May 21 - which, now my memory is jogged, was when eBay's information was hacked. I couldn't remember when I had last changed it (though it was after the hacking), so I changed it just to be safe. |

Yes... those instructions regarding password reset were related to the hack that Ebay had around March/April last year... and they forced users to reset their passwords after that... It is unlikely that anyone using Gixen has not logged into Ebay and reset their password as a result of that by now... so probably that instruction should now be dropped, and, as I mentioned, it should certainly be ignored if you have used Ebay in the last six months. _________________ Mark |
