I'm new to Gixen and want to know if I can use their service (or MORE LIKELY Gixen Desktop Manager) to send bids FROM MY PC (with my PC's IP address of course). The reason I want to do this is as follows...
1. I tried Auction Sniper, but up to 50% of their snipes failed because eBay required Captcha verification at the last moment.
2. I've N-E-V-E-R had eBay do that when I've submitted bids FROM MY OWN PC — even when bidding at the last second — which I've done hundreds of times. It appears eBay doesn't care about last second bidding, but they are sensitive to my login coming from an IP address it is not used to seeing. Although, after 20-30 times coming from Auction Sniper's server, eBay's incoming security algorithms still wouldn't accept my login from their IP address.
3. Thus, the solution for reliable sniping would seem to be; have an application that facilitates the user sending last-few-seconds bids from their own PC, as opposed to a service's server. This would be done with a batch timing process for the bid to be sent at a specified future date and time. This would require having the user's PC on, connected to the internet and logged into eBay. But, this would be more convenient than having to be awake at 2 or 3 in the morning!

Please let me know and/or comment. Thanks much.

No, you cannot do this with Gixen.

People that must have bids sent from their own IPs are generally recommended to use JBidwatcher which does exactly as you describe. However, unfortunately there have been reports recently (in the past year) that this is not as well supported as it used to be. As you are also aware, that type of operation requires you to have a very reliable internet provider service to function at an acceptable success rate and you must leave your computer on, with that service running, connected to the internet, at all times... those issues, and others, are the reason Gixen was set up as a web service right from the start.

This new initiative by Ebay to restrict bidding to home IPs, unless verified elsewhere, has also been noted here on Gixen... if your Ebay id is already subject to that restriction then it is likely that Gixen usage would also be affected... however, Mario does have solutions available specifically for Gixen users that usually help to alleviate this issue allowing Gixen users to get around the issue and continue to use the service, as is, on an individual basis.

This is the last active discussion here that dealt with this issue:

http://www.gixen.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6656

as you can see from that, the issue is not particularly widespread here, and there are users for which the issue has been successfully addressed.

Since details of the steps needed are issued on a 'need to know' basis, and may need to be tailored to the individual case, you might want to email Mario, up front of using the service, at the support address given on the 'Contact' tab above... reference this thread or repeat the issues you have had in the email... since you already have issues with your Ebay account, from usage of other services, Mario may be willing to provide you some instructions even before you set up your first snipe here.

Mark; thank you for the great advice. The page you referred me to is really interesting. Still reading it. Will finish it, then, when I'm fully prepared, will call eBay for their assistance to whitelist/accept bids from any IP that logs in with my credentials. Will report back.
