What am I doing wrong? |

What operating system variant of Windows are you using?
Many have found it beneficial to run the GDM in backwards compatibility mode. _________________ Mark |

I'm getting the same error code #10060 about a "connection timeout". The program window then opens, but no auctions are displayed. I've tried running the compatibility wizard, but no luck. (My native system is Windows 8.1) |

I've gotten the same error since I upgraded to the current version. It always worked before on my Windows 8.1 system. Compatibility wizard didn't help. |

I get the same error code, and I am running Windows 7 Ultimate w/SP1
I have tried closing all applications and closing my browser. I have tried clearing my Internet cache. These do not help.
The only workaround I have found effective - although not effective every time - is to restart the computer and then open Gixen Desktop Manager again after waiting long enough for all background services to fully boot.
I suspect that the reason we are getting the error code is that there is a conflict with some background service, but rebooting the computer unloads averything. Just a guess of course from observing what is happening. |

Have you also had no luck trying compatibility modes of running? _________________ Mark |

Just to let others know that unless Gixen Desktop Manager is started in WINDOWS XP compatability mode I get the "Socket Error" message too. |

Was having the same problem, tried reentering password and got logged on. Worth a try! I am running in XP SP2 Compatibility mode. Will try without compatibility mode the next time I start up GDM. |

This evening I downloaded Gixen Desktop Manager to three different laptops running:
Win7 Home Premium
Win 8.1
Win10 Pro (Preview)
It will only start correctly under Win7. Under 8.1 and 10 the socket error noted in the thread title occurs. Is there any additional information regarding the root cause for this error and a resolution?op |

The most common resolution sees to be to run it in backwards compatibility mode. _________________ Mark |

Cupid,
Thanks. Under Win 8.1 I had to work my way back all the way to WinXP SP3 compatibility until it would work.
It's interesting to me that this is working under Win7 with no tweaks but requires a far earlier compatibility mode to run under later versions of Windows.
I realize that this software is a volunteer effort and remain very grateful for that effort. That being said, if it's going to live on in to the future it's worth figuring out why this is happening in later versions of Windows and doing whatever tweaks are necessary to the software itself go get it to stop. Most people aren't "tech geeks" and would go, "Huh?," if you even mentioned compatibility mode to them. |

I agree that I need to review this, GDM is compiled with quite an old version of compiler. I will do this at my earliest convenience, but it will still likely take me a few months. |
