eBay id: 111622932568
Been using GIXEN successfully for about 7 years and came across this error: AUCTION RESTRICTED: REQUIREMENTS NOT MET for the first time this morning. Disappointed to miss the item as I could have bid on this manually and easily won it up to my maximum bid. I'm in UK, item in Germany, but they had confirmed they would ship it to UK. I'd like to know what happened to avoid in the future - thanks |

With errors of this nature it is unlikely that you would have been able to bid manually... Gixen has detected that there is a block on Ebay to your bidding... It is not possible to see such restrictions until you try to bid... so the only way round this kind of issue is to place a small test bid before setting up a snipe, to ensure that you are able to bid.
If you detect the block with your small test bid you can then get back to the seller and ask them to remove the criteria from the listing that prevent you from bidding. _________________ Mark |

The restriction was still in place, no matter what the seller told you. Below is the text from the ebay return page when Gixen tried to place a bid.

I just had the same problem the first time using Gixen. A solution would be if there was some way for gixen to check if the shipping address on the account was included in the delivery area settings for the item when the snipe is registered on gixen. Is this possible? In my case, I could have simply changed my shipping address if I had known beforehand (i.e. i didn't think this would actually prevent bidding).
Otherwise, looks like promising software Mario.
cheers,

I avoid this problem by only ever searching for items internationally from my local Ebay site... that way I only ever see things that the seller has already specified can be shipped to my location. _________________ Mark |

I don't think you understand... I wanted to buy the item, and was aware that it didn't ship to my registered ebay address, but I was planning on giving the seller an alternate shipping address if I won the auction. What I didn't know is that Gixen wouldn't be able to submit a bid until I changed my shipping address in ebay. That is why I ask if it would be possible for Gixen to check that the ebay shipping address is in fact an allowable address to allow one to bid on that item at the time you set up the snipe on Gixen. An error message there would prevent this problem. I would have then known that I needed to change my account to an alternate address before setting up the snipe on Gixen. cheers |

This isn't as such a Gixen issue, it is an Ebay issue, in that Ebay will not allow you to bid on an account which has a shipping address that the seller refuses to ship to.
For your specific problem I would advise setting up a different Ebay account, with a different shipping address permanently set, from which you bid when you find things on Ebay sites that will not ship to your normal shipping address.
You can then also use that account with Gixen, however a Mirror subscription for it would need to be set up separately.
In my initial post I was just pointing out that this issue is very specific (and thus unlikely to justify significant development effort) since it only occurs when you search on Ebay sites remote from your own location.
Your proposal would not work, in any case, if you then subsequently changed your shipping address back to your normal one before the bid was actually submitted by Gixen to Ebay. _________________ Mark |

As to your first comment about how common the issue is... I would guess it is fairly common seeing as two people have commented here in this forum on it. For those of us that live in europe it is rather ordinary that sellers exclude some countries by mistake from their listings even though in reality they would ship to them. My point was only to ask if it would be a difficult feature to add this shipping address check to gixen? Of course the developers (is that you Cupid?) can prioritize the request as they want.
As to the issue of changing a shipping address and then not being able to change it again before the bidding on the first item happened. Of course you're right, but that would still be better than the situation as it is now where I didn't know the bid wasn't going to be placed at all. |

It's impossible to detect restriction without trying to place a bid. So unfortunately the answer is - no. |
