The gixen website was just down for awhile. Should we presume website down = snipes will not fire? Or are snipes handled by a separate sever? Normal accounts not gixen mirror. |

Please see http://www.gixen.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=24513
The main facility in which both the main server and the website are located was down and most snipes failed during this time. Gixen mirror server was not affected. |

If I understand you correctly, the website server is separate from the main snipe server (but located in the same facility). It this correct? So website down would not always mean snipe server is down (but certainly it may also be down)?
Any chance there is a way to check if the main snipe server is down? Perhaps an IP we could ping? |

It depends - I have ability to keep everything separate, and usually do, but I cannot promise that is always going to be the case. For example, if I notice a problem with a web server, or need to upgrade software on it, I may temporarily move the web server to the same host as the main server, or even to the host in a different facility where the mirror server is. Note that there is not much use for the web server if the main sniping server is down - you wouldn't be able to modify anything at all.
The only thing that I always make sure to keep separate and in different hosting facilities are the main and mirror snipe services. |

To summarise, if you have a Mirror subscription you greatly increase the likelihood that your snipe bid will still be placed even if there is an issue somewhere in the Gixen system and the facilities it depends on to operate at full capacity.
Behind the scenes aspects of the service may need to be reconfigured, from time to time, in order to improve or maintain the overall service. _________________ Mark |
