Shipping Address

Hi,

Some Ebay items are available only to people with addresses in a certain country or region of the world. It would be useful for people with multiple shipping addresses to be able to specify the shipping address before sniping. For example, if I have a European address and a US address, I'd snipe a European auction with my European shipping address. Can you implement this feature? Thanks!

It wouldn't have the affect you wish for... because ebay does not use the shipping address when deciding whether or not to accept your bid... ebay uses the address that you registered the account for.

That address can not be changed easily anyway, as far as I am aware.

To achieve what you are trying to do you need to open different ebay accounts that are registered with the different locations.

Ebay doesn't do the restrictions based on your registration address but based on your current primary shipment address.

I have exactly the same problem like bedwere and i was going to request exactly the same functionality - to be able to choose different shipping address for different auctions (or gixen to choose the address by some rules).

I understand there is no official ebay api for changing the address, but there is also no such api for bidding Wink

so i really, really hope that this can be implemented.

Hmm... well there is plenty of evidence here that eBay takes no notice of the shipping address when deciding which bids to block and only refers to the main address where the account was first registered... that might seem counter intuitive to the way you would think that it works... but that is definitely the way that ebay originally implemented this feature.

Evidence would have to constitute a bid being blocked, followed by a change of shipping address and then a successful bid, anything less than that doesn't prove that a restriction is in place that can be circumvented with a quick change of your details.

Presumably if they were going to change the way they do this ebay would also have to prevent you changing your shipping address until you have paid for all items that you have won... otherwise you could just win things, change the shipping address and then demand that the seller sends it there... even though the seller specifically placed restrictions to prevent that happening.

... and if ebay is going to place restrictions on changing shipping address at certain times that is going to cause problems to any automated process that tries to implement what you are suggesting.

I think there is a lot more evidence that would need to be presented before anyone spends any more time looking at this.

... and, in any case, I presented a relatively simple work around in my first response on this thread... it isn't difficult to set up alternate ebay ids for different purposes.

I understand your skepticism. The restriction is illogical and not correct, but here is my proof:

I set my primary delivery address to Germany - and when i bid i receive this message:

Yes, the restriction, as it used to operate, has always been illogical... but understandable when you consider the consequences of people being able to change shipment address after they win auctions.

OK, why do you think it is better to have one ebay account that you keep having to remember to change the shipping address for, as opposed to many ebay accounts with different shipping addresses, where all you need to do is remember which account to use?

The feature that you requested then would mean that Gixen would need to change your primary shipping address on your ebay account before placing a bid. While technically possible, I really don't want to make any code that would modify users' ebay accounts.

For me, it will be the best if gixen can decide by itself which address to use. If it can't do it automatically - i can say which one to use at the time i make the schedule - this will be fine too.
I think this way i will not have to remember anything.

I use to have a problem but I do not anymore. I give ebay my billing address, and Paypal my shipping address. Seems to work fine for me now.

This thread is about the need to change the shipping address when the seller has put restrictions in place that prevent bids being accepted for the current shipping address that the bidder has chosen.

The proposal only applies to buyers that are able to accept deliveries in multiple different countries, perhaps even different continents.

Hay look I had sellers put no shipping to Hawaii, and not accept my bids. Now they do not block my bids and I can have them ship by USPS instead of UPS.
