Why not a 3 second Offset?

I am new to Gixen, so this might be a dumb question.

Why is the default setting for sniping 6 seconds?

Wouldn't 3 seconds be better?

Wouldn't it lessen the chance of being outbid?

6 seconds seems like a reasonable amount that should satisfy most users.

No, 3 seconds is probably not better, because sniping helps you against manual bidders, not other snipers. As for other snipers, ideally you want your snipe to arrive before theirs, so that bid increment rules work in your advantage.

Personally, I always use 8 seconds exactly for this reason. Shorter is not always better.

I agree with Mario, my personal default for both servers is 8 seconds and I often select a bigger offset than that, never a shorter one.

I find that strategy works best for me and the auctions I take an interest in which often have many other manual and automatic snipers interested.
