Hi

I am excited about using Gixen and I hope the owner/creater has better morals than the thieves at auction sentry!

What I would like to know is what is the best time to set the snipe? I have paid for the mirror site. Is it a safe bet to set both to 3 seconds? (I guess they should be set the same if I want this close time) I obvioulsy want the bid to go in as late as possible, but I don't want to run the risk of it failing.

Thanks

With Mirror 3 seconds is quite safe because you have a backup server bidding for you, it is a bit less safe for Grouped items that are not Mirrored.

Yes, if you definitely want the bid that late you need both set to 3 seconds otherwise most of the time the server with the larger offset will be placing the bid and not the one with an offset of 3 seconds which will only come into play if the other fails.

However, personally, I regard it as an advantage of the Mirror to be able to set larger offsets not shorter ones, that way you gain more advantage from the bid increment and first bid rules on eBay.

Successful sniping has a number of aspects, knowing the value, being prepared to snipe at your true maximum, taking account of shipping and transaction costs and getting you bid accepted later than anyone else can react but before other snipers that are prepared to pay about the same amount as you are.

Hi

Thanks for your answer.

successful sniping has a number of aspects, knowing the value, - yep
being prepared to snipe at your true maximum, - yep
taking account of shipping and transaction costs - yep

and getting you bid accepted later than anyone else can react but before other snipers that are prepared to pay about the same amount as you are. - mmm, always one that gets ya! Decisions, decisions!

I am not sure I understand this fully:

..... an advantage of the Mirror to be able to set larger offsets not shorter ones, that way you gain more advantage from the bid increment and first bid rules on eBay. - Are you able to explain this further please.

Thank you.

excited,

This because of ebay increment rules. You want them to be on your side against other snipers. This is why my favourite snipe offset is 8 seconds. Shorter is not always better, in fact sniping does nothing to help you against other snipers, quite the opposite, sniping helps you only against change-of-mind manual bidders.

Ok, no problem thank you. My dilemma between 6 seconds and 3 seconds is caused by the fact that I have previously used a sniper program which was set to 5 seconds. This had a 100% success rate. ... you know what it's like with these people you give too many choices to! Wink

Thanks for your help.
