|

I was wanting to bid on item 260902517058 with a snipe well above the final bidding price but my bid was not placed with Gixen indicating Unknown Error (3) and the link https://www.gixen.com/displayerror.php?bidid=2736642&username=ourbirdau&sessionid=1893956340797277 not giving much information.
I've got a paid subscription so it would have been on the mirrored site I presume.
I've used Gixen a LOT and never had problems before but since this item sold for less than half what I was prepared to pay this problem has really rattled my confidence in its reliability.
Anay explanation would be helpful |

I just looked at the ebay response page and it says:
"System Problem
Sorry, we are experiencing a technical problem. Please click the Back button of your browser and try again."
So eBay was having a technical problem of some kind at that moment. This rarely happens, but when it does there is nothing that can be done. |

[sigh]
OK, so with Murphy's Law at play it just happened to be on a listing that I would have won that went for a bargain price not one of the many I lose! |

Would this have effected both bids if they came in at the same time from both servers only. Or would it have affected only one, if the mirror came in later?
If the first was blocked (just like sniping someones head). Could the second have got a clear shot after the glitch was cleared? |

Since the issue was at eBay it is more likely that both Gixen servers would be prevented from placing bids, but that is not always the case, it depends on the nature of the issue eBay have, there may be more than one server at eBay processing bids and the two Gixen servers may sometimes deal with different ones.
As to whether having different offsets would help, well, I think it might have helped, but it depends on how long the problem lasted at eBay, if it were for more than a few seconds then even having different offsets may not have been enough to avoid the issue.
Fortunately this is a very rare occurrence, so we are unlikely to be able to do much analysis, the data set being very small.
To continue your analogy with a real life sniping incident this would be like something crossing the path of the bullets very close to the target, so it depends how big that object was and how fast it was moving whether it would have caught both bullets or not. _________________ Mark |
