Hi guys
This is very odd. I've been using the same password on eBay/Gixen for years but now I can no longer log on to the Gixen website with my eBay username and password even though the same username and password works fine on both the UK and US eBay sites.
I get this message trying to log on the Gixen site:
Password is not a match. Could not log you in. (33)
eBay refused your password. Please check the following:
1) Try to log in with the same username/password combination directly at the ebay website. If this fails, you have to resolve the problem with ebay directly.
2) If you use multiple languages / locales, check that your keyboard is set to the right one.
3) Some special characters presented a problem for Gixen in the past. If you use an unusual character in your ebay password, please let us know what it is (never email your full password, just the character in question).
4) If you changed your ebay password, the new password applies to Gixen as well. All the snipes scheduled with the old password are invalid and you have to re-enter them. You can no longer see the old sniping entries.
Have Gixen changed something? FYI my eBay password is 64 characters long - does Gixen no longer support such a long password?
Thanks |

The database field is exactly 64 long in the Gixen database, however this must accomodate url-encoded characters as well.
Are you sure that 64 characters is safe enough? |

Hi Mario
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, password was a bit long, it's not that I'm paranoid about security, just that I'm using a password manager and I elected to generate my eBay password with the strongest algorithm as it makes no difference to me if I don't have to type it or remember it!
Maybe eBay have always been ignoring some of the characters at the end of that 64 character password before when it was enterred - not sure. But the eBay site seems to say now that passwords should be 6-20 characters long.
The point was that logging in by enterring that 64 character password worked fine for eBay/Gixen for years, and then logging in at Gixen stopped working, so something must have changed somehow.
It doesn't really matter now. I've just changed my eBay password to 20 characters long and the problem has gone away. I can log in to Gixen again.
I suggest that anyone else getting the password error message should change their password on the eBay site and stick to 20 character max.
Thanks for your time. |

Thank you for letting me know. If there are such automated tools that generate passwords up to 64 characters long, maybe I should consider extending the limit. |
