I read in the FAQ's & now I have again in the forum where it's been said that Gixen will not bid or win an auction even when a person places a bid for a higher amount then the amount that actually wins because of it not being above the bid increment.

The bid increment only applies to an active auction & not the final bid at the end of the auction unless there is enough bid at the end to cover the bid increment.

If two different people place a maximum bid at the end for say $100 & $101 then the greater amount always wins which is $101.

Now if $105 was bid instead of $101 then $102.50 would win. The maximum high bid always wins though.

Is this just a matter of your system not placing bids then since this has nothing to do with eBay?

Robert - absolutely not - Gixen does not play smart when it's about increments. It will try to submit every bid that's equal or higher than the current bid.

When it's about user interface, it will try to warn users that the bid is too low (with different color) if bid increment is not met, but it will still submit every bid that's equal or higher than the current bid. eBay may reject that bid then, but this is ebay's doing, not Gixen's.

If the bid is submitted then it there wouldn't be an issue & it would win.
You could be outbid whether it was by .01 cent, .50 cents or $2 over the other persons bid. The highest bid wins regardless no matter how you look at it.

I know this for a fact because I have seen & won items for under the bid increment as long as the bid placed was higher.

If you don't believe me then you can read eBay's website & see for yourself.

Can I be outbid by less than a full increment?

You can be outbid by less than a full increment. A winning bidder's maximum bid needs only to exceed the next highest maximum bid by one cent.

It's not that simple - you can beat high bidder's *maximum* bid for less than a bid increment, but you can't beat *current* bid for less than a bid increment.

I think I see what you are saying though. The bids you are talking about have already been placed so that is why Gixen needs the bid increment.

Sorry for some reason I was just thinking of the winning bid.

So is then the bid is placed without any trouble & you can still win this way as long as the bid can be placed before someone else has put there bid in?

On a different note:

How many seconds before the end of the auction does Gixen place the bid?

I saw different times listed on the main page then the FAQ page.

Thanks

I am not sure that we are on the same page. First, it's not Gixen, it's eBay. Gixen does not restrict anything really based on bid increment. eBay does. One needs to understand how ebay proxy bidding works.

If the current high bidder placed a maximum bid of, let's say, $30.00, but at the moment he is a high bidder with current bid of 23.00. You will be required by ebay to place a bid of at least 23.00 + 1.00 = 24.00. If you place a bid of 30.01, you will win for less than a bid increment, obviously.

If, however, his maximum bid is the same, $30.00, but the current price is exactly as much, 30.00, your bid must be at least 31.00 in order to get accepted by ebay.

In order words, ebay bid increment applies to current price level, not maximum price level.
