Bid did not go thru

Gixen was highly recomended to me by a friend but the item I used Gixen to snipe for went for well below my bid. I put my bid in to Gixen days ago, and the auction only just ended. I can only guess my bid did not go through.
I've never sniped before and don't know if there was something I should have done on my end. The settings were for the US, which I have since changed as my bids are largely for Australian items.
