I only recently started using Gixen. I use since a few years another free sniping service which has limitations but is usually good enough for me. However I happened to need to go beyond these limitations, and did not want to stay up at 3am to do a manual snipe, so I googled free sniping services and picked one. I have been very satisfied and even though the free service is good enough and much better than a few free competitors I occasionally or regularly used, I considered that 6$ a year is extremely reasonable and that an outstanding free service was a good reason to donate and not a good reason for refraining from donating; and I was happy to support the developers and the users who are relying on the free service. I hope many will do the same.
