Does a preliminary bid help when proxy bidding kicks in

If I bid early will Ebay give my Gixen bid priority over someone who has not bid before? For example- 1 minimum bid on day 1 of a 3 day auction.

The only advantage you get by bidding early is that eBay awards the auction to the earlier bid in the case of a tie. Some people place a low bid early to kill a Buy It Now (BIN) and then snipe with their "real" bid.
