Hi,
Lost a bid yesterday because the \"Current Bid\" mentioned in the snipe was HIGHER than the actual bid amount at the time. On the item no. above, some 4 hours before auction end, I submitted my snipe when the item was at its original asking price of 190 euros. On the snipe page, the \"Current Bid\" was shown as 198.40 !!! At that time there had been no bid retraction, in fact 0 bids had been posted so how is a HIGHER price possible ?
At the end of the auction, I did not win the item as it sold, according to Gixen, for 233.64 EUR against my bid of 231.

ENDED 231.00 233.64 EUR (3 bids) OUTBID

In reality, the item went for
EUR 223.98
Your highest bid:EUR 222.98
Ends:Sep 27, 11:38 AM PDT

with my top bid amount of 231 being totally ignored by Gixen sniping.

Please explain !!!

If you look on the French site here the finishing price is 233,64 EUR which 'inclut 9,66 EUR de frais de Protection acheteurs' = 'includes ?9.66 in Buyer Protection fees'.

Ebay has chosen not to include the 'Buyer Protection' fees on the bids page.

The buyer will have to pay the higher figure because this auction was listed by a private seller, you were indeed 'OUTBID'.

Mark,
Thank you for your reply. However, your statement is incorrect :
EUR 223,98 27 sep 2026 om 20:38:19 CEST
EUR 222,98 27 sep 2026 om 20:38:18 CEST

Gixen did not bid over the 223,98 although my max. was 231.00 as mentioned.

I have a suggestion : when entering a snipe, have your software execute a \"refresh\" just before and also do so with each successiv'e automatic bid and up to the end of the auction. I hit the refresh button on the my snipes page when first noticing the wrong current bid and it resulted in showing the correct current bid price ...

Regards,
Hendrik

P.S. I should have mentioned I'm in France and unlike you not accessing ebay France from abroad ! That could explain your different view.

You'll find that if you enter a bid manually on Ebay France, for an item that is being sold by a private seller that Ebay now automatically reduces your bid on the bids page so that you don't actually end up paying more than your bid.

I can assure you Gixen did place the bid you specified, if you disagree with the way Ebay are now displaying it you need to take that up directly with them, what Gixen is doing corresponds directly with what now happens on the website itself.

Incidently, as noted on this thread, from the middle of last year, if you set your Target site differently on the Settings page then the operation is different... I'm not recommending that anyone does that, because Ebay say that is breaking their rules... however for some reason they have chosen, thus far, not to programmatically prevent you from taking advantage that way.

You can also follow through on many other discussions as to what is being displayed starting with this recent thread. Basically Ebay reports (to Gixen) the current price as displayed on all sites on the bids page, but when buyer protection is in operation the amount you have to bid is increased by the buyer premium which they only display on the actual auction page. This does not change the fact that you should set your snipe value to be the maximum amount that you are actually prepared to pay.
