For some reason the spam filter doesn't like \"upd*te\"

204834161996 showing Max bid ?GBP 42. Should be ?GBP 92. Is this an indication of a communication problem that might interfere with my snipe?

Auction price updates are not real time, that would be far too resource intensive, the servers would need to be even more expensive than they already are, and so everyone would have to subsidise the service more than they do now.

Many years ago it was tried for a short while and the performance of the servers was compromised to such an extent that the Gixen website started being really slow.

So, since then, the auction price updates have been periodic, with more frequent updates towards the end of the auction.

It's also primarily for people that require real time updates that the Gixen Desktop Manager was developed. Though you do need to be using a Windows environment to benefit from that. That software uses your own computers' resources to retrieve prices from the Ebay servers, on a schedule that you can change. That way the work is spread out amongst the users that want that feature and doesn't slow everyone down (and cost them more), when they don't.

Price updates are independent of the sniping process (other than that they are a bit more frequent as the snipe time approaches), and so don't affect it in any way.

Personally, price updates aren't significant for me since when I set my snipe I've already decided what my maximum is going to be, what other bidders decide to bid and when isn't really of any significance, to me, from then on.
