|
|
I set up a snipe knowing that the increments are ÂGBP 2 once bidding is over ÂGBP 60. My snipe was ÂGBP 66 but I lost to a bid of ÂGBP 64.66.
Does this mean ebay did not stick to its own increment rules for some reason?
The bids increased like this at the end:
5***3(472feedback score: 472) ÂGBP 64.66 6 Dec 2020 at 4:43:54PM GMT
2***o(667feedback score: 667) ÂGBP 62.66 6 Dec 2020 at 4:45:28PM GMT
5***3(472feedback score: 472) ÂGBP 61.95 6 Dec 2020 at 2:53:00PM GMT
7***1(594feedback score: 594) ÂGBP 57.00 6 Dec 2020 at 4:45:15PM GMT
1***1(12901feedback score: 12901) ÂGBP 55.00 6 Dec 2020 at 4:43:11PM GMT
e***x(2133feedback score: 2133) ÂGBP 48.00 6 Dec 2020 at 4:20:22PM GMT |

You don't say what time the auction ended at, nor when your snipe was due to be placed, but if the auction was showing a high bid of 64.66 and you tried to place a bid of 66.00 (either manually or through Gixen), then it would not have been accepted by eBay as the minimum acceptable bid would have been 66.66 (i.e. the current bid + one bid increment, or 64.66 + 2.00 = 66.66). |

I suppose my point is if the bid increments are meant to be ÂGBP 1 or ÂGBP 2 then why do the bid amounts start increasing in amounts like
61.95
62.66, etc.?? |

I agree that something looks odd with the timings of both the 64.66 and 61.95 bids seemingly being before the 62.66 bid which you wouldn't expect to be accepted in that case. I'd prefer to see the actual Ebay bidding though, not just a transcription of it here as I have never seen Ebay break this rule.
The common misunderstanding in this area is not to realise that the bid increment rule applies to the currently displayed price on Ebay.
This is not the same as the current high bid amount, which generally remains hidden until it is outbid.
So, for instance, I still suspect that when the 62.66 bid was accepted the current auction price was actually displayed on the Ebay auction page as 58 (lower bid of 57 plus one bid increment of 1). Then since 62.66 is more than one bid increment more than 58 it was accepted... since it was also greater than the high bid amount of 61.95 that was previously placed it also became the high bid.
As I say, I've never seen Ebay fail to implement this rule correctly. If however you suspect that this is still actually the case in this instance please provide the auction id and I'll take a look at the bidding via the actual Ebay auction page. _________________ Mark |
