Failed again on an item listed by an EbayUK seller. Tested placing a bid beforehand up until confirmation and all looked good, but no bid was placed by Gixen. Auction finished and Gixen is showing 'You are not eligible to bid on this item.' when this was actually not the case when tested entering the bid manually.

When you say 'again' is this a reference to a pattern with bids that Gixen has attempted to place for you ?

What was the auction number ?

Again, because the item was relisted. But there is more to this. As Gixen failed to bid for me the first time round, I too woke up early Sunday morning (here in Australia) to place the snipe bid manually this time along with Gixen. Having tested up until confirmation I thought my snipe would work. Also paid Gixen subscription for the extra mirror. So waited for the final seconds but my manual snipe bid also failed and was shown a dialog which I didn't fully read as I refreshed the page -- my bad. Is Ebay stopping my snipe bids? Number for item was 188990454186.

I see, so were you manually bidding via the .co.uk site or via the .com.au site ?

Also where was Gixen supposed to bid ?... by which I mean, what was your target, the UK (.co.uk) site, the Australian (.com.au) site or the default American (.com) site ? The setting is made via the fourth section of the Settings page with title 'Ebay target site'.

It would certainly also be a help to know what message accompanied the failure of your manual bid, so if you get a chance to do something similar again and get a better look at the message it would be helpful if you could report back here what that might have been.

This is where errors such as this one happen, after you confirm.

In this case, here is a more detailed error message as received by eBay:

The sale of lasers is subject to restrictions on eBay.com.au. These restrictions apply to the purchase of these items from other eBay sites. Read more about this http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/policies/items-ov.html policy. If you believe you received this message in error, contact Customer Service by clicking on the Contact Us link on that page.

My manual bid was placed on the Australian site. And the Gixen snipes were set for Australian and the US Ebay site. Also was logged into both these Ebay sites. And yeah should've taken a better look at the dialog window, not refreshed as realistically had no chance to try place another bid.

Lol so Ebay thought I was bidding for an actual laser? Hmm yeah possibly, maybe that was in the dialog which popped-up. Will test this next time, see what message I receive. And would complain but customer service can't do jack now as the item is gone.

Anyways, thanks both.

Yes, unfortunately many of these checks are automated, evidently without any human oversight.

Since any human would easily recognise that this was a brand name not an accurate description of the item, perhaps we can hope with the invention of actual intelligent 'AI' this might improve in future... or perhaps it will get even worse before then ?
