This has happened twice, with separate groups of bids since trying Gixen, as a free user. I scheduled about 12 bids. The first 2 completed, and I actually won one of them (extreme lowball with no other bids). But every bid below that switched itself to CANCELED.
Do I need to have a paid account in order to place more than a certain number of bids?

No there is not a limit on the number of bids.
The issue occurs when Ebay place some sort of block on your account making bids via the Gixen server. Then the future snipes you have scheduled soon after that failure are cancelled in order to prevent Ebay taking any further action against your account due to more attempts by Gixen to log into your account via its servers.
If the problem is persistent Mario now recommends changing your Ebay password to one that is more difficult to guess, before scheduling any more snipes, after logging in to Gixen with your new password. _________________ Mark
