Default Bid Offset

New to Gixen and think I understand most of it with the exception of what the 'Default Bid Offset' is all about. I've checked the FAQs and here on the forum but can't quite find out in a nutshell what it is and how it works i.e. is it better to use the default 6 seconds or should this be reduced (or even highered)?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The default bid offset on the Settings page is the amount of time before the auction ends that your snipes should be scheduled to place the bid, before the auction ends... if you do not specify a different offset when you set up that specific snipe.

Offsets are something you can choose yourself, precisely because there is no universal agreement about what is best.

You are only able to set different offsets on your snipes if you have a mirror subscription. Without one all your snipes will be scheduled with a 6 second offset.

There are many, many discussions about this over the years, on this forum. There is a search facility here that is useful if you wish to find them.

My personal view has always been that where there are likely to be other snipers interested in an an auction it is better to have a longer offset, rather than a shorter one.

I shall not repeat the arguments for and against on this thread... the debate is endless...
