Good day,

Hit by the "COULD NOT BID: PHONE OR TEXT VERIFICATION REQUESTED BY EBAY" problem on a snipe yesterday.

Took that on the chin as an annoying "one off" so I went through the how-to-fix routine, connected AOK via Gixen proxy, changed eBay password, re-entered entire snipe list of 39 items from scratch as that process deletes all existing snipes, and added a new snipe on item 151522285354 as a low-value test item today.

Failed with "COULD NOT BID: PHONE OR TEXT VERIFICATION REQUESTED BY EBAY" once again.
Please advise resolution prior to "serious" snipes from tomorrow onwards.

Thank you & Best wishes/for the New Year.

Did the process recommend that you change your Ebay password?

I thought that tended to make the situation with automated sniping programs worse, not better, in the short term.

Usually, after a password change I would recommend not using a sniping service for a day or two. After that things tend to sort themselves out with Ebay.

Thanks for that input, Mark.

As currently detailed for resolution of the "COULD NOT BID: PHONE OR TEXT VERIFICATION REQUESTED BY EBAY" issue (clipped below for those lucky enough not to have this!), changing the eBay password is on step 4. I hadn't changed that since May (this year), so did so "just in case".

I've set another short-term test snipe up for the next hour or so, to see if I get another repeat.

Good to know if other people are still successfully placing bids, anyhow. Cheers!

If you are seeing this page, it is likely that your account requires phone or text verification by eBay.
You have to complete this verification from Gixen IP address in order for Gixen to be able to place bids for you.
Here are steps on how to do it:

1. Please log out of ebay, clear all ebay cookies in your browser (important).
2. Setup your web browser to use Gixen socks server as illustrated on images below.
3. Verify (see below these steps) that you are connected to the proxy server by refreshing this page.
4. If you haven't changed your eBay password since May 21st, please do so immediately. See GBP GBP GBP GBP ebay.com and GBP GBP GBP GBP ebay.com/reset as to why.
5. After you are done with this, you have to place a manual bid (on any auction). eBay may (or may not) ask you to verify your account (the same way it asks Gixen), and you have to complete this verification if asked to do so.
6. If you wish to disable proxy in your browser, you can do so now, it's likely no longer needed. It doesn't hurt, however, to leave it on for a while, e.g. a week or so. Only your Gixen and eBay traffic is routed through it, nothing else.
7. Schedule a snipe. It should work now.

Your IP address is: 63.141.227.221
This means that you are connected to Gixen socks proxy.

OK, I see why step 4 is in there... there were users that had not updated their password at Ebay since they had their security scare and forced everyone to do so... and for those, that caused issues for sniping services that can't do the required update of the password for them...

Other than because Ebay requires a password change (as was the case earlier this year or when you report a compromised account to them) I would not recommend it for solving problems with sniping.

Of course it is wise to use a unique password for Ebay (not used for other services, though, of course, it IS required to use it to access Gixen) and to change it periodically, especially if you feel there is any chance that it could have been compromised... but I would recommend doing it at times when you are less likely to be using the account for automated sniping.

OK, we are where we are... with the proxy in place have you tried placing a manual bid on Ebay since the last failure?... If not, then I recommend that you do so. That is, go from step 5, again.

If you find anything being introduced into the process, by Ebay, that Gixen would not be able to circumvent when it tries to place a bid, obviously you need to take action to prevent it happening, hopefully just by following the instructions Ebay place before you... and if you don't find any encumbrance to placing a bid only then would I start scheduling any more automated snipes.

Edited to Add: When making a test bid I recommend that you do so on the Ebay site that you have set as your target site(s) on the Gixen Settings page... and if you have two sites (i.e. different for Main and Mirror) then try test bids on both to ensure both are clear of bidding issues with the Gixen proxy in place.

And normal service resumed, thank you: no complaints at a couple of cents a day!

Glad that wasn't a more widespread issue. I'd had the "COULD NOT BID: PHONE OR TEXT VERIFICATION REQUESTED BY EBAY" problem before a year or two(?) ago and the listed fix worked first time, so that was a bit unexpected to have the same problems more than once. (Entering the entire list of snipe items from scratch is also fun, on changing eBay passwords!).

Cheers & Keep up the good work in 2015.

(*g* Forum's not letting me log in again, either; takes me back to the snipe list when I do. I'll live with that Smile)

I believe Mario has found that having snipes on items that result in bids being placed at exactly the same time is more likely to cause this kind of issue with your account.

This is the reason why there are now many more offsets available on the drop down menu when you set up a snipe, this is so that you can schedule more snipes on auctions that end at the same time but have bids placed at least a second apart.

Other than that changing your password often could also be a trigger to this kind of behaviour by Ebay.

So those kind of behaviours are probably best avoided where possible when using Gixen.

A useful feature is that you can now download your snipes to a text file on the Settings page, that way you can have a store of them that you make before changing your Ebay password that you can subsequently use, again via the Settings page, to quickly upload your snipes again after you have changed credentials.

Good luck with your future sniping.

(Unless Mario has set you up a forum account specifically for use here, it is not necessary to log in to use this forum, you just specify the name that you wish to be known by (it is most useful if that is also your Ebay id, but it is not required for it to be the same) whenever you post.)
