I got the message:
COULD NOT BID: PHONE OR TEXT VERIFICATION REQUESTED BY EBAY
on the following items:
171266901222
141211361758
271425509750
Before that, I received an "unknown error (3)" on the following items:
380863747677
390797009212
I logged into my ebay account and placed a bid, and did not receive any extra prompts myself.
It looks like I got the same errors on the mirror.
Has anyone seen anything like this? Better yet, know how to fix it? |

Actually, I didn't get a prompt today, but I did get one last night when I tried to log in from my phone.
Is this a once and done thing? Or is this going to be a problem ongoing in the future? |

You will likely have this problem again. You have to call eBay - they flagged activity on your account as suspicious, and now ask for verification from any IP address that's not your home IP, every time. This basically disables sniping.
At least two customers reported to me that they were able to lift this restriction when they called ebay customer support. Email me if you want to see the exact page Gixen received from ebay. You may need it when you call eBay customer support. |

Could this happen when someone uses Gixen for regular auctions but their own computer for Buy It Now? If so, maybe you could offer Buy It Now capability through Gixen's server... |

No, this happens simply because ebay sees you log in from two different locations. |

Got the verification request when doing a buy it now from my laptop this morning. Had a Gixen bid for item 380898600145 from my desktop which did not work because of e-bay verification. Followed the proxy instructions which worked on refresh. I then placed a manual bid but did not get a verification message, bid was accepted. Should I now clear the proxy and use Gixen again or leave it? |

Since you haven't received the verification screen I would leave it for a while, e.g. a week, but not indefinitely. |

As a follow up, this has not happened before and just started about 2 days ago. I have been using given, free (and paid version for a year) for several years now and have had a few issues, but this is the first time I had issues with all snipes for multiple days.
help!! you pretty much can't win anything on ebay anymore if you bid up front. Sniping is a must!!! |

hardieboys,
Login timeout is set at 12 seconds, which is plenty of time to get a response from ebay, and yet, for some reason, login was timing out for your account. I cleared some dead cookies, and I believe it's going to work fine now. If it doesn't, please email me. |

I am having the exact same problem as poster. This started 5 days ago. I just talked to eBay and they tell me it is because I have wifi?? If you have a smartphone or laptop, how else would you use the internet?
Anyway I have missed 2 auctions 261476756274
221438488212
and received this message "COULD NOT BID: PHONE OR TEXT VERIFICATION REQUESTED BY EBAY".
At the time the auction ended I was on ebay, so what gives? I have the free and the paid version. |

hsbuy, please log in to the web interface and you will see instructions how to verify your account through Gixen proxy so that Gixen can place your bids. If you find instructions unclear, please email me. |

hsbuy,
Do you mean your snipe list (Gixen doesn't have a watch list)?... Mario is talking about logging into Gixen here on the web not Ebay. _________________ Mark |

Please complete the steps in any browser. As far as I know, setting a proxy in IE will also set it in Chrome and vice-versa. Complete the steps as outlined and after that you can turn it off. |

hardieboys, I recommend that you complete the same steps again, and leave the proxy on for a while. Only your traffic to eBay and Gixen will be routed through the proxy. |

Masuta007,
If. having followed Mario's instructions on the use of the Gixen proxy, you have then been able to place a bid then it would tend to indicate that Ebay has removed the restriction on bidding via Gixen and your snipes should now execute correctly.
If you did that earlier, but now find bids are failing to be placed by Gixen for the same reason, then you once again need to set up and use the proxy to verify your account, via the Gixen server, with Ebay. _________________ Mark |

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the reply. I only just completed the verification steps that Mario has described and was able to place a bid without any issues. Hopefully the next snipe goes through without any dramas. |

Masuta007,
I hope so too... If you should however experience any further issues I would recommend leaving the Gixen proxy in place for a few days so that all your Ebay traffic goes that way till you know they are happy with the verification that you make using it. _________________ Mark |

Having the same verification problem and looking for the instructions? Nowhere to be found.
By the way my username is keeping me from posting here because the last two letters with CS instead of X it's on a spam filter.
WHERE is the proxy instructions? I've gone through all tabs and settings. |

Interestingly, after changing the proxy settings and logging back into eBay I was unable to pay for an item - the page was not available. I'm based in the UK.
Once I switched back it was ok. |

buckarooba,
I agree that there are some Ebay features that do not function correctly with the proxy in place... The features required to log in and bid are included in the redirection... however some ancillary Ebay sites are not included in the redirection even though they are picked up as Ebay traffic.
The proxy setup is only intended to give you opportunity to be able to sort out the issues Ebay is causing via its actions against the Gixen Main server, it is not intended for long term use or all Ebay activity. _________________ Mark |

I called the idiots at eBay and they first informed me that sniping is against eBay policy, and then told me that it is ok, but the error messages for account verification are not from eBay, but from the siping tool itself, and that they have been getting a lot of calls about it. |

eBay customer support may not know about it or understand it fully.
These messages are definitely coming from eBay because eBay detects logins that do not come from your home IP. It's an anti-fraud measure, and sniping services are a collateral damage of it.
Please email me if you haven't already, I do have a solution for this and steps that you should follow. |

|

I left Auction Sniper because I was losing to many bids. I looked at Gixen's community and only saw two instances of troubles, but they were quickly resolved. They must know what they are doing. (I am paid subscriber.)
It's about Ebay requires verification. After the first incident (Ebay #171870884164) I followed the instructions and it shows that I am connected to Gixen socks proxy. I have placed manual bids as well, no problem. I still have it on my proxy (two days now).
But today, when I snipe (Ebay #391210884389), I got the dreaded Ebay requires verification code again.
Not sure what to do now. Any help would be appreciated! |

I also just left AuctionSniper for the same reason and paid for subscription to Gixen
My first snipe with Gixen just now replied with
Item: 171872693418

Please someone find a way around this issue |

Again, please email me if you haven't already. I have to look at each case, and while the message is the same, cause and steps to take may be different. I can tell you that at the moment this is not a wide-spread issue - very small percentage of customers is affected. |

I also had trouble with this verification.
I adjusted the FF option to the proxyserver as described, then placed a bid manually, aftre that I scheduled a snipe, but again same trouble.
Can you help me out please? I really want to use Gixen on an item that is running till Friday 19.14 Amsterdam time. |

Thank you Mario for all the work you do to make Gixen so good. Auction Sniper has no clue as to what to do (I have left them and not returning) with the "Ebay Requires Verification".
I followed your suggestions as outlined but it did not work. Found out later that I had not removed all the cookies from my computer, it is critical! Followed it to the letter the second time and now my sniping works again. Did 5 tests so far and all successful, no more dreaded "Ebay Requires Verification".
Thanks again Mario, you're the best! |

I just won a real good deal (golfset) on an auction with Gixen.
There was another bid 10 seconds before closing, but Gixen gave it no chance and overbid it 6 seconds before closing.
Great work Mario! |
