Hello
Item 281183048709
I was checking regularly in Gixen how my bid was doing and was content to see it was OK. Then one day I went to check it on ebay and I found I was only wasting my time because there was nothing to bid on.
Could it be that the seller cancelled the bid seconds before I fired up a Gixen session in my browser? If not, does Gixen actually check the status of the auctions in real time ?

As stated in the listing:
'This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available.'
Gixen checks this periodically, but not in real time because, to do so, for everyone, for every auction, would use far too many resources and thus be costly. _________________ Mark |

Thanks for that.
Do I understand correctly that when I log in to Gixen using a browser what I see on screen is not the current status of the auction ("in real time") but a status from the past, e.g. when the snipe was created, or some other point in time?
If so, how long is "periodically' and how do I refresh the status in Gixen session to get the up-to-date reading?

'periodically' on Gixen means anything from a few minutes to many hours depending on when the auction is going to end and whether you have a Mirror subscription.
It is not possible to get real time updates via the web interface, as I said, that would be too costly to provide.
If you want real time updates, and you have a Windows based machine, I suggest that you try the Gixen Desktop Manager, since that uses your own computers resources to get updates at a user defined interval... and was primarily why that application was provided. _________________ Mark |

Mark,
Sorry, but it's not working for me. As told, I fired up Gixen Desktop Manager (refresh interval set at 5 sec.), and it showed (both for the Main and Mirror) that the auction is still scheduled. Nothing is changing except Time to End.
I was trying to post a screen dump but "The word h_t_t_p:// is on our list of spam related words. ". It can be seen at
w_w_w.zen59375.zen.co.uk/public/gixen_12-10-2013%20_11_50.jpg
It still shows 8h, 26 m, 21 s as the time to go while the auction was actually ended 11:44:22 BST Any other options to make it work?

mznxmznx, real-time refresh is only used to refresh the price, not the status of the auction. Status is fetched from Gixen servers.
Now why is this a problem for you? When this happens there is nothing you can do about that listing anyway. A few hours delay (at most) before the status is changed shouldn't be a big problem. |

Mario
Thanks for pointing that out to me. Actually, it does make a difference if I make a bid for an item scheduled 8 days ahead, then the bid is dropped, but I am still unaware of it because Gixen will not let me know. If I could know earlier, I could have search for other similar sales, or go for a "buy it now" option elsewhere.
I am not sure, either, if it's only a few hours delay. It's almost 5pm here but my Gixen Desktop Manager is still showing the bid as scheduled, even though we have been discussing this business since early morning. |

I will see what I can do about this. Apparently status remains "SCHEDULED" until the original end time lapses. |

Mario,
Seems we are getting there! Now I can see Status (Main) is AUCTION ENDED EARLY BY SELLER. Even though Status (Mirror) is still SCHEDULED, it is more useful than previously.
