Item 380517428297
Marked by Gixen as 'Won' and GBP 10.53. In fact, lost, at GBP 18.32. This happens all the time with Gixen: real-time prices and competing bids are often minutes or hours out-of-date. It frequently reports "You were outsniped" when in fact there were numerous higher bids than mine.
Means I no longer trust Gixen reporting, but ALWAYS have to check with Ebay live. |

There was a problem in parsing of a UK completed listing that prevented the "outsniped" status (and final price) from being properly fetched. This is fixed now.
Thank you for letting me know, and please do so in the future. I see a lot of "bystander effect" as the service becomes bigger - users assume that someone else will report an issue to me, and it goes undetected. This is especially the case for bugs that affect only a portion of customers. |

That is a fair comment Mario... I myself may even be guilty if it on occasion (yes, on further analysis of what I later wrote I certainly am) with aspects that don't affect the result and are not core to the essential function of sniping... They don't really bother me greatly, however I accept that they can look bad to anyone not used to the service and how reliable it is in doing the essential functions and may thus give a poor impression.
For instance I have noticed recently that some (all?) completed auctions where the price has gone above my bid the colour is not yellow, it always used to be... however it always seems to be yellow when the price rise is detected before the auction ends, which is slightly more important... I have no idea why that is... Since my next action, once I notice they have completed is to delete them anyway I haven't thought it serious enough to report back to you.
I also noticed that the images for many auctions on .co.uk were not getting through to the display on the web interface... I know you have fixed this now (without my bothering to point it out) and that it was a follow on from the listing changes that ebay first made on .com and you promised to fix there a while ago... I hadn't got round to checking whether it was fixed for .com before you fixed it for .co.uk (and presumably other sites) and there seemed little point in hassling you about it, when I already knew it was on your radar, so to speak.
Spanner48,
Real time updates of auction prices on the Gixen website have not been a feature for many years... it was found to be far too resource hungry to enable such a feature... that can be accommodated, if you require it, by use of the Gixen Desktop Manager which does feature real time updates using your own computers' resources to fetch the current prices direct from ebay.
.. and Mario,
I will endeavour to report back anything else I notice in a more timely manner, if and when I spot anything else.... The only other thing I can think of, at present, is that counter of the number of snipes still being out by 1 whenever an update that affects it is made. But it's been that way for years now so I hardly even notice it is wrong _________________ Mark |
