Hi,

Any chance of having the total value of all yet-to-be-sniped bids and also 'auctions won' displayed on the web page?

Basically the former would be 'my maximum commitment excluding shipping if all snipes win' and the latter 'actual spend of all my successful snipes so far'.

Just a little nice-to-have really!

Thanks,

Steve

Steve, in my view it's not an essential information, and there isn't much space left in the interface anyway.

Fair enough Mario - understood.

Now, about adding a larger range of numbers to the Multi-win pulldown menus in Settings. We occasionally discuss this but it's still only 1-5 so I tend not to use it! Wink

Any chance that perhaps the last two multi-win groups (9 & 10) could be set aside for 'bulk' buyers like myself? Maybe group 9 could have 1-20 as a range and group 10 could be a whopping 1-100 ? This request doesn't eat into screen real-estate....

Appreciate you taking the time with Gixen - which is why I'm in my fourth (I think it is...) year of Mirror subscription and encourage everyone else to do likewise.

Regards,

Steve

Steve, can you give me an example of a string of purchases in which you would need more than 5 items won in a row?

It may be just me, but I don't see a need for more than 5.

I can think of an example of maybe up to 10... perhaps you and 9 friends want to go to the same event and so want 10 tickets.

More than that and I would tend to think there is an acceptable 'work around' anyway... if I wanted 15 I would tend to snipe the first 15 ungrouped and add others as and when I lost some to keep the total that I might win to the total of 15... then when I got to 5 or less I might use the Multiple Win Group to win the last few without going over the number I want.

If I wanted 50, I would think that winning 51 or 52 (before I got back to cancel later snipes) wouldn't really be that much of an issue either... I can't think of examples where having 50 is ideal but winning 51 is a big problem.

Hi Mario,

Simple answer: I buy lots of items on eBay to repair & re-sell. I'm buying 50 - 60 items a month, often more.

I'd like to set aside an afternoon to setup all my Gixen snipes so it would be great to research say 70 or 80 items, stick them into a Mult-Win-Group and forget about it. As soon as [50] auctions were won then that would be it.

As it stands the [5] item limit doesn't make this easy. I'm sure [5] is perfectly suitable for many buyers, which is why maybe just having the last three Multi-Win-Groups 8, 9 & 10 with a high-value options of say [25] , [50] and [100] respectively would be excellent.

Cheers,

Steve

I think if I were in business with that strategy I would be moderating my purchases by decreasing (or increasing) the amount that I was willing to spend on items rather than setting a cut off point on the number of items I want to win in a certain period.

Would that not increase your profit margins more?

I take your point Mark but It's a trade-off between wanting to pay as little as possible, of course, and being able to get enough items in to work on, sell & make a living!

Also waiting around to 'get lucky' on sufficient items at lower bid prices lengthens the overall time it takes to get a decent number of items in to me. Less stock in hand = less items to sell = less income. So cheaping-out on bid prices is a kind of false economy in the long run to my mind.

My take on it would be to snipe at reasonable prices where I stand a good chance of winning most auctions without paying over the odds, using a high-number multi-win-group value.

To increase Multi-win-group 10 up to 50 members, and admittedly showing my total ignorance of how Gixen is written, aren't we just discussing modifying the Settings page HTML to read:

Code:
<select name="group10">
<option value="1">1</option>
<option value="2">2</option>
<option value="3">3</option>
<option value="4">4</option>
<option value="5">5</option>
   ................
<option value="46">46</option>
<option value="47">47</option>
<option value="48">48</option>
<option value="49">49</option>
<option value="50">50</option>
</select>

Cheers,

Steve

Steve, it was an easy change, so I increased the maximum to 100.

Hi Steve,

Yes, I understand your need to have turnover of items to keep income flowing... I would just be a little concerned that 'cheaping-out' is exactly what you are doing with all the items that are cancelled from your Multi Win group since you won't be bidding on those at all and that might be where the real bargains lie.

Anyway, Mario has made the change for you so you can judge for yourself after trying it... it would be good to get some feedback on your experience as and when you get into it.

Best of luck with all your Gixen activities...
