On two occassions I have been outbid by exactly $1.00 after making two initial bids for each item early on and then setting my max Gixen snipe amount. The latter is what the $1.00 winning bids were based on. How are they out-sniping Gixen-do they have shorter snipe times than the Gixen Mirror increment?? Thanks!

EBay only makes the winning bidder pay at most one bid increment more than the next highest bidder, no matter what the winning bidders maximum actually is. So it is not unusual for the second highest bidder only to be outbid by a small amount.
$1 is the bid increment in the range $25.00 to $99.99 so it is usual to be outbid by inly $1 if the auction price is in that range and you have the second highest bid.
This has nothing to do with when the bids are placed.
All Gixen does is place your bid in the last seconds if the auction, if someone else decides to bid more than that at any stage during the auction there bid will beat yours.
Sniping only protects you against bidders that are not prepared to bid their maximum during the auction, not allowing them enough time to decide that they were actually prepared to pay more and then place that bid as a reaction to yours. _________________ Mark |

Making two initial bids for each item early on just lets people know that you are interested. As far as I am concerned this is a mistake and should not be done. They look you up and see your bidding history and bid higher. Just stay with the program, bid one time, your maximum amount, and get off or never get on the watch list for item that you want to win. It is to your advantage if no one bids before your snipe. The bidder who beat you by $1.00 could have bid $20.00 over your highest bid. You have to pay up to see his bid, just like in poker.
Do you think a sniper hiding in a tree, starts off by making a few test shots to let everyone know that you are watching.
|
