Login problems today, "GIXEN DATABASE ERROR"

One of the Gixen main servers had a database problem this morning, that prevented some users from logging in. In addition, some snipes from this server failed to execute due to this. My estimate is between 90 and 100 snipes. If your snipe is one of them, you will see the status message "GIXEN DATABASE ERROR".

The affected snipes occurred between

Feb 13, 2012 01:23:53 PST
and
Feb 13, 2012 05:42:57 PST

Yes, everything is working fine again.

I determined the problem was caused by a bug in one of the background processes. In a specific scenario (that happened last night), it was slowly depleting database out of available connections. Unfortunately this was a very privileged process that has access to the entire pool of available connections, as it was completely trusted.

The issue is resolved now, my apologies to affected users.

Fortunately, most of users on the affected server have a mirror subscription, and this saved the day.
