I've used Gixen a couple of times in the past, mostly on small items. Today was when I am hoping to snipe out an important sale.

Minutes until auction close and my bid was way above the current price. I came back to check a minute after it was over and.... no bid!

Now I regret not making the bid manually as a precaution... Did I do anything wrong? I though Gixen's fail rate was like way less than a percent and am I that unlucky to hit a fail jackpot???

... sigh...[/img]

You made the last edit only 15 seconds before auction end. That's far too late. Were you refreshing your screen and re-posting data? You didn't get a big warning not to do that? What it likely did is repeat the last edit, effectively kicking out the snipe from the queue at the time when there was no time left for anything.

Hmm? I make an edit to the snipe price at about 30 minutes before auction ends. After that, I only use Ebay mobile app to look at this item which is on my watch list a couple of times, including right before it ends, but didn't do anything to the Gixen site. Is your log showing something different??

Thanks for the superb support even with this free service though.

Yes, definitely, the last edit was only 15 seconds before auction end. It had the same values (max bid) as previous entry, that's why I thought it was a refresh.

I set the snipe over an hour in advance and didn't change it until so many minutes before the auction.

I did however refresh the page to see any changes in various other queued snipes and it is possible this cancelled my bid.

I don't think refereshing the page should be tantamount to resetting all scheduled bids - I mean I didn't make any changes so this is redundant behaviour. It makes no sense since there are perfectly legitimate reasons for you to refresh the page particularly when you haven't made any changes. I lost an item I was rather fond of.

BTW I didn't get any pre-warning about refreshing.

Here is a screenshot snippet:

I'm really sad to have lost this item. I'm afraid it will be irreplaceable. I should've won it by a long shot.

For future reference, as you now know, the Refresh button is best avoided when using Gixen.

If you would like an update on the Status it is advisable to use the 'Add' button instead with no values specified in the fields.

Just checked, and unfortunately it seems that this was caused by the refresh. I wish I could replicate such behaviour, when I try to do it I do get a warning, and this does not happen.

I was doing it fairly regularly to keep tabs on the current state of the auction. I used the F5 browser hotkey. It never occurred to me that this would reset my scheduled snipes, since I did not enter any changes.

I believe with many minutes to go I had already set the maximum I was happy to settle with. But with a couple of minutes to go I started refreshing the page repetitively to see the auction's progress.

Why oh why...? We got on and the seller had a private word with me and offered to sweeten the package if I won by throwing in a free expensive upgrade which doubled the value of that pen. It's not very often that that happens!

It's also a vintage pen, and in the particular shade of blue I've always wanted it. And in near mint condition... Sad I've never had problems with Gixen before and always allowed plenty of time. I truly believe sniping makes a difference especially with items with dynamic value in which bidder's decide an item's value in response to other bidders, because it prevents consequent inflation. But to lose an item like this so unexpectedly...

F5 is a bad idea - if you need to refresh, just click on "Add" with empty fields. After that feel free to use F5 if you like, but not after an edit.

I have a code in place that should have prevented this from happening, but in some cases it still happens. I was unable to replicate it. What browser do you use?

PostPosted: Sat Apr 14, 2012 1:55 pm    Post subject: Newby, my first bid: Ebay error: Bid flow reset (11) Reply with quote

Item No. 300692727036

I was outbid, but I think I would have lost even with a higher bid. Bid flow error message was the same for Chicago and Miami. My hand-sniped bids have never been a problem. I Bought Something Now yesterday with no problem.

If I'd really wanted this, I would have bid a lot higher, but even if I had, it appears I would have lost because my bid would not have been entered.

What did I do wrong?

liederlistener,

According to the bid history page your bid of US $26.77 was made 5 seconds before the auction ended, are you saying that was not placed by Gixen?

If not what was the amount of your snipe in Gixen?

I'm asking because eBay does not allow bids of the same amount from the same user at different times so if you had another process placing your bids that could interfere with Gixen placing them.

Hello, Mark --

This is for Item No. 300692727036, already noted
$27.77 was the winning bid.
My bid was $21.00. I don't see it among the bids that were entered. It's still listed at Gixen.

Thanks for your response.

Mark --

This is for Item No. 300692727036, already noted.

The winning $27.77 bid was not mine. I had bids coming from both Chicago and Miami, a few seconds apart. Both bids were for $21.00. I didn''t use a mode or vehicle for bidding other than Gixen. Shouldn't my $21.00 bid be listed among the bids that were entered?

Shouldn't one of Gixen's two servers resolved the "EBAY ERROR: BID FLOW RESET (11)" problem?

Thanks

liederlistener,

No, you should not expect your bid to be listed on eBay if it is less than the amount that eBay would accept at the time that Gixen is scheduled to place the bid.

Only bids that are accepted by eBay ever appear in the list there.

If your snipes were scheduled at anything less than 8 seconds I would not be surprised that none appear as the price went above your price 5 seconds before the auction finished.
