Having issues with Desktop version 1.2.5, 1.2.4 was working fine, and it stoped working as 1.2.5 was released. So downloaded 1.2.5, after unziping it and running it - Norton Quarantines it

Category: Quarantine
Date & Time,Risk,Activity,Status,Recommended Action,Path - Filename
8/19/2011 9:01 AM,High,gixendesktopmanager.exe (gixendesktopmanager.exe) detected by SONAR,Quarantined,Resolved - No Action Required,c:\ebay-snipsoftware\gixen.com\gixen1-2-5\gixendesktopmanager.exe

It would be nice to allow the older version (-1) to continue to run until all the bugs are worked out with the current version or at least until the n+1 version comes out (as in 1.2.6).

The fact that Norton makes problems does not mean it's a bug - Norton AV is a horrible piece of software, I hate it with passion. GDM contains no virus or malware whatsoever, and from the error message it's evident that Norton found nothing at all, yet it reported an issue.

Version 1.2.4 and older do not work anyway, due to eBay changes released yesterday (redirection of item pages). This is the reason why I disabled them.

I don't know how to make an exclusion in Norton, as I haven't used it in a long time. I do know that one other user who emailed me managed to do it, so there has to be a way.

I have to agree that Norton is a poor piece of software (I erased it from my system many years ago)... it is a shame it doesn't treat itself as malware and delete itself Laughing Rolling Eyes

I have to second that, Norton and Symantec products in general are shite, even for big corporations (we have 65.000+ users at work and even then their support suck).
I would recommend switching to Avast (free for home use) or Kaspersky if you have a choice.

Heres a KB on how to exclude files or folders:
service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/pfdocs/199829164436

you might have to disable the AV before installing, install, then configure the exclusion.

Best regards,
Traste
