Too late to put in a bid?

I just tried to submit a bid for the first time and was told the bid was not entered as it was too late to submit a bid. How late is too late to enter a bid?

About 2 minutes before the auction ends.

If you were trying to place a bid earlier than that, and the auction is still running please can you let us know the auction number so that this can be investigated.
