|
|
.
Hello!
What is the correct way to pronounce the word/name, "Gixen" ???
Should I pronounce "Gixen" using the "short" or "long" vowel sound for the letter "I" in the word, "Gixen" ???
I'm leaning towards saying it using the "short" vowel sound for the letter "I", so that "Gixen" rhymes with "vixen".
Just Wondering . . . . .

I'm a bit confused Robin, what would it rhyme with if it were the 'long' vowel sound?... I'm not very good with linguistic terminology.
That said, I would tend to agree with it rhyming with 'vixen'... but it doesn't really matter either way, does it? It's just a made up name it doesn't mean anything, unless you would like to define it as 'the best eBay sniping service' _________________ Mark |

If it matters at all, I always pronounce Gixen in a way that it rhymes with "vixen", and "G" is a "hard" G. (see wikipedia page on "hard" and "soft" G at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_and_soft_G). |

Hi, Mario!
Hi, Mark !
Mark, the "short" vowel sound for the letter "i" when used in a word is something similar to sound it makes in the words "kick", "fish", and "slim". The "long" vowel sound for the letter "i" when used in a word is something similar to the sound it makes in the the words, "I", "like", and "slice". The "long" vowels sound like themselves: I, A, E, I, O, and U.
As for, "What difference does it make", it makes a difference when you want to tell a friend about it, or mention it in a conversation on a nationally syndicated radio talk show that has over 10 million listeners, or on a Nation-wide TV news network.
Like I said.... "Just Wondering"

Ok thanks Robin (and Mario),
Until this point I had not realised how many different pronounciations of Gixen there could be... Fortunately it seems we all agree on one. _________________ Mark |
