When you bid, the winning bid was 113.06; thus, the bid increment was 2.50. This means you had to bid at least 115.56 for eBay to accept your bid. Since you bid only 114.00, your bid was indeed under the asking price.

By the way, even if you had bid 115.56, you may still have been outbid, since the winning bidder's proxy bid may have been still higher: the winning bid is no more than one increment higher than the second highest bid.

Bid was under asking price but was not
I bid 114 and the asking price was 113.06 . I did not win and the message was bid was under asking price.
