In some ways it is a bit easier than that... The Gixen servers update their prices when you add a new item and then two or three times a day after that, and a bit more frequently towards the end of the auction. The price and status are also updated once the Gixen server has completed its' work on the snipe and the auction is over.
When you import from your watch list you are often adding some new items, so that is why you see some up to date prices appearing at that time.
When you modify an item you effectively delete the old snipe and add a new one at your new price so you can see updates then too.
When you consider how many snipes Gixen is hosting you may realise how resource intensive the process of updating prices is to the servers. For this reason it is not possible to provide you with a mechanism to increase the frequency of the updates on the web interface... and I would encourage you not to try to get around the restrictions imposed by this on the main servers... such behaviour could be regarded as anti-social since it could affect the service for all users if many people were to engage in similar activities. After all, the current auction price is not an essential feature for successful sniping and should not affect the amount that you are prepared to bid... that should be researched and decided independently of the particular auction you are sniping.
One of the main reasons that the Gixen Desktop Manager was originally provided was to allow you the ability to control the update behaviour yourself. If frequent updates are important to you, then that is what you should be focusing your attention on. This is because the Desktop Manager uses the resources of your own computer to retrieve the auction price information and hence can do so as frequently as you like and entirely independently of the Gixen servers... leaving those servers with the more important task of placing the bids at the end of the auction, for the whole Gixen community.

Post subject: How often and when does Gixen update Bid Status?
I think Gixen updates the latest Bid Status:
a. Upon log-in
b. Upon editing/modifying a bid item
c. Periodically throughout the day (3 times? 4 times? varies depending on load conditions? fixed intervals?)
But I'm just guessing.
Can you please enlighten me?
