I agree, it isn't always the case that the BIN disappears when a bid is placed... it does for all the ones I take an interest in though... Sometimes the auction price has to rise to a certain level, perhaps 50% of the BIN price, before the BIN disappears... I think it depends on the category and perhaps options available to the seller when they create listings in categories where the function is different.
I haven't seen one operate that way for some time now though... so I may be wrong.. ebay may have changed the function once again.
What is certain, is that Gixen tries to do what you ask in placing the bid at the time you specify... however sometimes ebay blocks that bid if the BIN is still showing and the bid is higher than that amount.

Not always, it depends how seller sets it up.

Post subject: Bid limits
Does that mean Gixen can bid higher than a buy it now price, if one shows?
What happen here was the buy it now price was still showing when the auction was accepting bids. A phone call to ebay got it fixed. When an auction accepts a bid, the buy it now price should disappear.

It's not Gixen - Gixen will still allow you to schedule such a bid, but eBay may refuse it.

Post subject: Bid limits
I have a situation here where I am willing to pay more than the buy it now price, but I think I can get it for less with a snipe. Because we cannot bid higher than the buy it now price. Gixen limits my bid. Is there a work around?
